problems with my pulsar 2 card (adat & midi)

Post by vien »

Hi all,

i've been using my pulsar 2 plus card for about 5yrs now, and starting from today i've had problems with my adat and midi ports.

- ADAT A & B, only the old channels work, i.e. 1, 3, 5, 7 etc. I'm positive my converter is ok (tested the adat out to a different pulsar card and it's ok).
- MIDI In port doesnt work at all. Midi out is ok. (synth keyboard's midi is fine, something dodgey is going on with scope, checked with midi monitor in scope - nothing)

Anyone else ever had this problem? Any solutions? or is my pulsar dying???!!?

the adat port thing is a mystery. i'd almost call it impossible, that's probably because i've never seen such a thing. if it worked at all, it should work completely. as to midi, you might need to take a meter to the cable whip and be sure there aren't any broken wires...

In both cases the first thing I'd suggest is removing and re-adding the hardware modules that seem dodgy. Sometimes when hardware 'shifts' around (IRQs etc) scope can get confused about the hardware modules saved in old projects (like your startup or default one).

Hey all, ends up it was due to the contacts.

Bought the caig deoxit & pro gold kit and cleaned all the contacts on all my cards - pci & stdm contacts and module pins. The cottons buds i used ended up being all black!! Dust or oxidization? Who knows, it's clean now, the dodgey ADAT and midi ports are ok now!! Happy days!! :P  8) :) :D

Oxidation. It's generally recommended for professional studios to clean all contacts at LEAST once a year, and now you see why home/project studios can benefit from similar things
