Scope Only Slaves To Wordclock at 48KHZ

Post by braincell »

For some reason I only get a sync at 48KHZ and not at 44.1KHZ using an A16 as Wordclock master.

Anyone else have this problem?

what powersupply do you use with the A16 - the original one or a 'notebook-style' like ?
the unit won't work properly with (most) of the latter. It will only sync at 48k and will get hot as hell.

That was an excellent clue. It turned out I had too many power bars plugged into power bars. I plugged it directly into the wall and it works now. Thanks!

you're welcome - it was an easy guess, as I verified that sometime ago with my own A16 when someone reported a problem with a replacement PSU. :)
But while we're at it...
The A16 seems rather sensitive to polluted powerlines.
Mine is currently supplied by a DIY transformer and I left out the small capacitors to filter HF noise. It's currently not in use as it needs some buffer cap replacement and resoldering anyway.
But I've tried the (original IBM) notebook PSU of my A21 thinkpad on it, which is a perfect match in specs. The unit doesn't heat up (as with cheapo switching PSUs) and there was a 2-3 dB lower noisefloor. :o :)

cheers, Tom

Interesting. I have a huge collection of old power supplies. My DrumKat is powered by a telephone machine power supply. The machine broke within a year but I am now glad I bought it.
