Cured strange syc problem

Post by Wolferich »

Since a while I had sync problems on my Pulsar-ADAT-A port . They appeared occasionally without a reproduceable pattern exept that it mostly happend when I wanted to make recordings with my band (that was just by chance).

Last weekend I tried to analyse the issue and excluded my mixer (sending the sync) and the cables as cause of the probs so that only a falty Pulsar was left finally. The problems disappeared after I dissembled the Pulsar-card and separated the part with the IN/Out-plugs from the part with the DSP-procesors. After cleaning the multi-pin connectors of these parts and using a contac cleaning spray I assembled everything and since then all problems are gone.

I hope that this will last for a while now !!!

That's interesting. Is it all still working?

I'm having troubles syncing a Scope Home with a FocusRite TT-Pro using S/PDIF.
It's become worse and worse so that now more often than not it won't sync when Scope is first started. Then it might pop into action after the PC's been on for an hour or so. Obviously the setup's fine as when it works it works. There just no obvious pattern for when it works and when it doesn't.

Bit nervous about taking the board apart but if I do I'll post back.

How wonderful!!!!! :) :D   8)

I didn't have any contact cleaner but I guessed simply re-seating the connectors would break any oxidisation etc. and so it appears to have done. It syncs immediately now. That would never have happened before - it was becoming unusable.

Just to be clear, I separated the IO board from the DSP board and reconnected. (BTW, if you're thinking of doing this you only need to remove the plastic screws on one side.)

Thanks so much for posting this Wolferich. I came here to post this problem but found the solution already waiting for me. (good job I just scanned the page instead of searching Titles though cos of the 'syc' typo)

[edit 8/7/8]
It's still working!
It feels like I've got a brand new Pulsar (errr... Scope, sorry)

Hi doodyrh

I am very happy if I could help you solving this problem with my post. I thought that someone else might have a hard time with such problems. In my case still everythings goes totally perfect since the "repair" and I hope it will be the same in your case.

Mine's still working perfectly too. Still gives me pleasure seeing it start properly every time.

Invest in some Caig cleaner doodyrh, here in the US you can even find the mini-spray gold & normal cleaners in a kit in the local radio shack stores (though the employees never have a clue what I'm asking for, I always find it). Avoid anything named 'tuner cleaner' like the plague...
