What other nice DSP based boards are there around ?

Post by micmac »

Hello,

Since the Scope 5.0 is never going to be released soon enough (let's be realistic),
I wondered what other nice DSP-based audio interfaces there were around ?

If you have any other brand to indicate me please do so, and I'll see if I can get one.
Then maybe this new board will have software and drivers delivered on time...

And I'm glad that I didn't buy this additionnal creamware board I wished I had.

By the way, I have to point out that M-Audio's website been down for WEEKS back
in times, and prevented me to download drivers all along...

It also remembers me of the ASUS ftp, sooo slow for downloading drivers in
my country...

Can someone tell them that just selling hardware is not sufficient please ?

Thanks !

soon enough for what?

scope is the best choice, imho and for the buck, with or without v5.

I admit that it was a little bit ironic... I love scope too, just that I wished that new 5.0 was out... ;)

well, let's have a look at a quote by someone made earlier this year, 24th of February to be precise...
...I could buy a better one, pulsar or so, but well... why not getting a cheap luna 2
somewhere and enjoy 6 dsps ? :)
you might have hit the nail on the head... but there also might exist some relation between draining funds and missed deadlines ;)

cheers, Tom

astroman, I was planning to buy it second hand anyways... so no incidence on the market whatsoever.

Thanks for the info, Zer.

i think you missed the point - astro's saying you buy second hand (ie. no money goes to Sonic|Core) yet expect updates? By buying second hand SC get no money to pay programmers to get Scope 5 out in time.

I do not know any DSP solution that can provide all the founctions of scope cards (I/O, DSP, synth, effects, mixers plug).
Do you focus on a special type of project : mixing audio instruments, getting some synth plugs ...

The only solution providing synth plug is the TC Powercore Range with only a very few plugs (PowerCore 01 and third party Virus and V-Station). then you need to add a different system for I/O (from the TC Konnekt range or other).

All other DSP based solutions are effect and mixing only solution providing only DSP power and no I/O (UAD2, Duende, Liquid Mix). Even Waves APA32/44 are not DSP based but also effects and mixing oriented.

If you are looking for synth plug, the other way round is to look at DSP-based synth (often Virtual analog ones) like access virus, the last Waldorf, Clavia or Novation synths.

I will stick with Scope for now but I am not married to it nor am I optimistic. They missed the boat with Xite. It is just not a realistic option for most musicians. It doesn't xite me.

they might have missed the boat with XITE-1. but if the concept is downsizeable (and I assume it is, since I am optimistic :) ) maybe even you might get tempted once by a XITE-2 or -3 or whatever they may call it...

concerning the original question... maybe soundscape is the closest relative. ah well, and protools is a dsp based audio interface too, in the end :)
I assume audio interfaces like the new motu devices that let some effects run on internal dsps, or the metric halo, although not mentioned before, don't fit in the scope of interest...?!

Well I bought a creamware board (first hand) some time ago, so that's right the money didn't go to sonic core... But since it's an old board, I am going to pay for Scope 5. No problem :)

The point (at least for me) for a good audio interface is not just having dsps and a few effects, but having full routing capabilities as with the Scope platform.

Ahh... I'll have a look at other brands, but in the end I'll be patient and wait for scope 5 like all of us. It's just that I have Vista (I hear some of you scream ;))
and I don't like multi-boot, rebooting and all.

I looked at Scope 5 and I already own most of what's in it. I might get it if it improves the performance though.

Utter rubbish, but I'm sure if you say things like that often enough, a few people might start coming round to your way of thinking (whatever that may be).

My mistake Gary I was thinking of Scope 4.5 but look at this:

Your application software and your plug-ins are compatible...

* if you bought it before 1st March 2007

That is really going to piss off the entire community. Nearly all my plugins were bought before then so I certainly won't be buying Scope 5. I'm screwed! Yet another brilliant move by the heirs to the now defunct Creamware brand. I certainly will not reward them with any purchase if this is true!

you are misreading that.

German to English is tricky sometimes. you won't lose anything unless you bought the Use/Audio versions. if you have 4.5 the upgrade is free(afaik). if you don't have 4.5, the upgrade costs the same amount as the 4.5 upgrade.

Heh, alright. I would still wait though until other people buy it because that looks bad. I suggest they get someone to translate for them who is fluent in German and English.
