Re: LHC
oh! so arrogant and knowledge filled they are.
if they know all about such things in such detail, why do they need to waste all that energy and all those resources(human and otherwise)?
the fact of the matter is, that while nothing bad happening is the most likely outcome, the research is irresponsible. we're always promised wonderful benefits of atmospheric nuclear tests and other stupid experiments, but there's no need to wait until further scientific study to have human society directly benefit humans rather than ideals. as you may remember, when the first A bomb went off, there was a strong possiblity that the entire atmosphere would ignite. the experiment was done anyway. the fact that nothing bad happened(except for the frying of all those people and the sword of damocles that we now try to ignore), doesn't change the fact that you'd spank you child 'till next tuesday for that kind of behavior.
the first paragraph of the linked pdf admits black holes to be a possibility, it's just that they don't think that such black holes will be able to live. the truth is that it's all theory and they don't know what will happen until the trigger is pulled. remember the stargate atlantis where Rodney blew up an entire solar system? oops...
i'm not losing sleep over the thing, but i'm not so gullible to just be impressed by the size and scope of the operation(though it IS impressive) or the expert condesention of some egghead, lunatic alchemist...err, scientist...

Re: LHC
none of those issues are anything else but a reflection of the kind of arrogant thinking that built that collider. none of those problems are real, except for the manipulation of the public's minds which created those issue to begin with. the solutions are simple, but not with the present mindset.
"biocide" is not real except with the use of pesticides, genetic engineering, importing of livestock and accidental alien species and other behaviors related to city life. otherwise, humans have lived on the earth for many thousands of years and the earth is still beautiful. there are always species that don't survive, with or without humans on the earth. where are the dinos? the massive genetic manipulation, "terminator seeds" and other insanities are the real danger. the solution? don't do those things. just stop.
forest destruction is limited except when mega cities become involved, but obviously there's no need to destroy them except for the purposes of mega-profit. the solution? don't do those things. just stop.
would there be holes in the atmosphere without all those nuclear tests? you don't know. you don't know much about the chemtrails that the US government ADMITTED to spraying last week. actually, weather and atmosphere modification programs have been operating for quite some time and they've not been secret. they're just spun. spin, spin, spin, to everything turn, turn, turn...
CO2 is VITAL to life. disgusting pigs in the Club of Rome are using the false emergency of "Global Warming", which has become global cooling again since the Sun's hyperactivity has ceased completely, but that won't be officially admitted for a bit, not before the carbon tax is reality.
water pollution is the same game as deforestation. the solution is simple, don't have people in charge of government and industry who are such pigs. the masses will always follow. that's how herd creatures like humans behave.
oil is NO WHERE near depletion(but it's dirty, so it doesn't need to be so highly relied upon). where are the metals going? they can be reused almost continually.
i agree. no need to wait for "black holes" like the a-holes who spent billions and trillions when i'd be happy with thousands...

Re: LHC
I agree with Gary. If the purpose of science is to improve life conditions for humanity, there's a lot that could be done NOW, with what we already know. We don't need to know all or be "god" to help each other, if that's what we want to do.
The LHC is an exercise in vanity and materialistic power. There are risks involved for all of us that are simply not taken into account.
People complain that there is no money. Well, here's where part of that money is going to. I believe that very large amounts are also being spent in ridiculous attempts to survive a global catastrophe, meaning many are building bunker-like shelters, others investing in private "spaceships", others injecting gold atoms to the veins... and other stuff. Very few, though, are trying to bring peace to their world, and improve conditions for living.
Whenever we make a scientific breakthrough, we use it as a weapon, either military, or economical. That says a lot about the sort of beings we are, or are subjected to.
Although the LHC is interesting, I have to say I'm expecting more of the new LHB, by SpaceF.
Much peace,
T

Attention: Do not fall into the black hole!

that's a reasonable post...
Re: LHC
well, they say that what they are doing in CERN happens all the time... So, can we assume that miniature big-bangs are happening all the time in the ionosphere?
Wouldn't that be an interesting fact all by itself? Wouldn't it be possible to just go up there and observe?
I believe these scientists are just too greedy. But I don't believe that they are allowed to swallow this planet in a black hole. But that's just me, and I could be proven wrong in a few days (anybody know exactly when the protons are supposed to collide?).
Another thing: there's going to be a lot of data coming out of this. Does anybody believe that the actual data will be presented equally to all scientific organizations in the world? Does anybody think that these scientists or whoever is above them will not lie to us all?
That would be, if not a first, a great novelty in these days.

Re: LHC
Something of interest is that the 'unknowns' seem to worry everyone apart from the scientists who are either involved with or are knowledgeable about these experiments. That doesn't make them 'knowns' though. They're still 'unknowns' by all accounts.
Re: LHC
Exactly.stardust wrote:This is a physic experiment in particle science.
Any terms like 'god particle' or 'black hole' associated with these experiments would seem to be irrelevant. What might be relevant is what's discovered from doing such experiments, but really the jury is still out on that since they don't know what they're looking for never mind what they're doing, hence the term 'experiment'.
Re: LHC
I tend to agree with you on that, there's a lot of hype to this, even though many of these metaphors are being used by the scientists themselves, in an effort to get public support and attention - not just hype journalism. But the main problem is, as Shroomz puts it:stardust wrote:Sorry to say but this 'big bang' allegory is the same kind of lurid boulevard sensationalism like the black holes and god particle.
Quite right! Unknown for us, unknown for them... and so we wonder!Shroomz~> wrote:Something of interest is that the 'unknowns' seem to worry everyone apart from the scientists who are either involved with or are knowledgeable about these experiments. Hi,
About 12 years ago I had professional meetings with one of the guy on the CERN video and I would rather associate open, clever and responsible than what you're thinking.
But I recognize that the CERN made a mistake: they delivered WWW and Mosaic to mere mortals ...
cheers
