180 -> if that is celsius (and you do live in Germany), then I could see some plastic melting pretty quick.

I know that seems pretty much, but some units actually function as an oven, keeping everything within it at a very specific temperature in order to help provide stability and reduce whatever form of distortion may come from thermal variances.
Of course all those components within the box need to be thermally regulated. That and the quality of the filters(analog and digital), plus the analog cuircuitry which was contructed from the bottom makes some of those units so bloody expensive...

The A16 Ultra is definitely really heavy. At least 3 kg!

Hi,

I own a VC-8, don't use it that much anymore, as I purchased a Roland VS-2480.

The VC-8 was a cool box to start off with, but it only offers phono to 1/4 inch jack connections, and the resolution of the conversion is only 20 bit.

When I first used the Roland VS-2480, with it's ballanced in, 24 bit conversion and 56bit internal processing, the difference with the Fostex was just too big to describe!

So my lesson learnt is: Fostex is a cool little thingie, but it's not really up to quality standards...

Hope this helps a bit,

Greetz,
