Hi Hubird
I'm really glad you liked this one. It's only a very quick demo(one day's work). I'm actually trying to work it all out at the moment, arrrggghhh!!!
In the process I've gone off on a bit of a tangent and done a trancey type remix which loses practically all the vocals. Probably a bad move judging from your reaction to them.
They're a local Gospel Choir(Melbourne, Australia), really beautiful voices and so much talent it's scary.
Two questions b/c you seem interested.
1. Should I lose the delayed bass drum roll-on type thing? I'm not sure if it sort of cheapens the overall sound.
2. What would you do with this song? (That's a big question isn't it.)
Any comments/opinions will be greatly appreciated.
cheers ZA

Hi Agent, well you did a great job by sampling the choir, the way you cutted out the samples and what you did with it is very good.On 2002-04-02 15:36, Zombie Agent wrote:

I would just say, stay with what you have.
Look close at every little peace of the song that seems to be a inherent piece, and try to feel what funktion in a new arrangement that piece could have.
For instance, the end is a piece that you can perfectly use for a break in the song.
So, define what pieces build up, what pieces are intensifying the first ones, see this as 'couplets' build of two parts, let the voices piece be a kind of a chorus, use drum pieces with the rolls as bridges, built an intro and a break, etc.
BTW, the echo's on the bassdrum are perfect, because they make just a ridm variation, instead of sounding as delay's.
You can use this perfect like that.
So, I would say, just bring some rest in it by stretching out the lengths you have here, as if your song was made of elastic, and position the different pieces in an arrangement.
What I sometimes do in cases like this (i.c. a short demo), is cutting up in your audio sequencer the hole audio file in the various pieces you defined (4, 8, 16, or 32 measures), copying the pieces and dubbel them to acceptable length's.
Don't look to irregularities, just build an arrangement of let's say 4,5 minute.
Than rebuild this whole idea with your original audio and midi parts, and make things smooth, may be ad a simple hi string thing or dark ambient string, if necessory.
If you want me than to take a close look at it, you can send me a mp3 per mail, or post it on planetz if you prefer.
But stay with what you have here, or you will loose it!
good luck!

Hi hubird
Thanks for taking the time to convey your ideas, great stuff mate. I will keep these close at hand on my musical journey.
I think I need a break from this song for a while, gather my thoughts, everything's getting blurred at the moment. Let you know where and when I turn up.
Thanks again. U give me inspiration.
cheers ZA
