i can't listen to this at the moment. Not being a dubstep fan i recently found the fab Burial to my liking. What other dubstep artists would you recommend in that vein? i think Kode 9 might be a good starter too.
I like pretty much all of it, but it's not easy to say what you would like. The best option is to listen to MAH shows which are now mainly Dubstep oriented, but I've got to be honest here & say that I much preferred her older Breezeblock shows where she played a wider variety of electronic music. I'm not saying MAH is a brilliant DJ, but she sure puts Annie Wac to shame.
There's a lot of dubstep compilations coming out now, wrapping up vinyl released over the last few years. Or if you like to cast your net wider some of the Planet Mu compilations have interesting breakstep (sub-genre of dubstep) artists mixed in other other good bits. Though the breakcore/drillcore type stuff in the Mu compilations made me rip just the bits off of the cd's that I liked (drillcore isn't my thing). There's a fair smattering of idm (and Luke Vibert!) etc on there so it's still a worthy purchase for me. Some dubstep albums & compilations:
Mary-Anne Hobbs: Evangeline (also off Planet Mu)
Steppas' Delight (off of Soul Jazz Recs)
Aerial by 2652 just came out (2652 is the artist), pretty good imo
My Demons by Distance (Planet Mu again)
Skreamizm Vols.1 & 2 (off Tempa I think)
Foundation Bit (off Werk, WERKCD004)
Bay Area Dub Step 01 (off of Full Melt)
Box Of Dub-Dubstep & Future Dub (off Soul Jazz Records, vinyl only perhaps?)
Tempa Allstars (Vol's 2,3,4.. vinyl only also?)
Some of the labels in my collection (vinyl):
Techtonic, Tempa, Combat recs, Boka, Tectonic, Abcus, Werk, Ghost Recordings, Hot Flush, Pitch Black, Planet Mu...
Artists I take note of:
Boxcutter, Burial, Loefah, Vex'd, Pinch, Scuba, Distance, Reso, Emalkay, Kode9, Darqwan, Scan One, Benga, TRG...
Thanks, most of my recent sets have at least 30-45 mins of dubstep too, I've found it to be a great bridge getting from the lower 100-ish bpm's up to 160+. The only other options for the 135-145 bpm ranges would be something like psytrance or hard banging techno (or god forbid I throw down some Ghetto Tech), and that usually doesn't fit as well with my other selections.
how long do I have to wait before they stop wanking and start playing . No sorry let me rephrase that . After 7 minutes of digital delays and self important statements I just lost interest . Maybe I'm missing out and it isn't for me .But it's like one long friggin Advertisement AND I had to get real player to listen to it as well
Isn't it just electronic music ? or is it like line dancing for savvy jamaicans
I very highly recommend the above! It's quite ambient for dubstep, but it's got some meaty goodness in there as well - very 'full range', if you know what I mean...
Below is another link to an excellent DJ mix (I posted it here a while ago, but I'm convinced that it needs posting again, because it's just that good. Not dubstep, strictly speaking, but definitely in the same vain).
O.K. Shroomz .Btw have you tried them dry in a pipe
I'll give the beeb another go . Dubstep F.M was good . I'll have to investigate these sub genres . I've got the tools haven't I
Zer, cheers for the dubstepfm link. I didn't know that existed. Just been listening to an artist called 'shit the bed'.
Chriskorff, that boxcutter mix is class!!
skwawks, you're right. There is indeed a difference. Smoking is mild. Better to eat as you pick, make a mushy brew or dry, crush & store in a jar. Careful doing the latter though since a small amount of dried & crushed shroomz in the palm the palm of your hand can be equivalent to 100 or more of the little devils. Haven't done any of that shit for many years now though, despite what my forum nick might suggest.
Yeah that Boxcutter mix is FRESH! I love the second tune (maybe third), the one that starts with a reggae snare roll...
Also, Shit The Bed... my mate's got a night down in Bristol called Shit The Bed, and I'd be very surprised if that wasn't him! Is it B-more type stuff? I think that's what they normally do, as well as breaks an ting. What's the vibe, and where did you download it???
Nah, I didn't download the shit the bed track, it was played on that dubstepfm channel that Zer posted a link to above. Still listening to that channel because they're playing some great stuff.
