Returning to Scope Land
Hi all,
Long time no postage.
As a Mac user, I'd pretty much given up on the Scope platform.
BUT - I can't stands it no more and wish to start using it again - this time in a PC - as I'm thinking it's probably the easiest way.
I know nothing about PC, IRQ, Windows Mobo voodoo.
Just wondering if some kind chappy would point me in the right direction as to what sort of PC I should get - just to get me up and running.
All I'll have in it is a the Scope Project (Pulsar II) and a GB nic.
Any help appreciated.

Intel P35 Chipset / Intel E8000 series CPU's w/ E0 stepping. 2 x 2GB's of DDRII 800.
Many of us have these choices in one flavor or another. Many w/ success and more than happy to help.

Wellcome back,
Check out the tech talk thread where we post our results, but Jimmy synthesized the matter pretty well!
MB: Intel DP35DP or DFI Lan Party or Supermicro C2SBE are reported working well.
cheers

Re: Returning to Scope Land
If you are still using your mac for sequencing then dont go crazy on the CPU. a core2 8300 or 8400 will run VERY cool and need minimal fan noise to cool it. when only scope is running the CPU is hardly stressed at all.

Re: Returning to Scope Land
You have been gone a while Brett!
I picked up a Gigabyte P35 DS3 motherboard, E4400 Intel Core2 Duo, 4 Gig ram and 80gig sata HD for about $200 AUS about 8 months back at the local computer markets in Canberra. Although the system wasn't intended to run the scope cards I did try it out for awhile and scope installed flawlessly and ran perfectly with no problems if that's any help.
Just moved to Murrumbateman but I work in civic and I'd be happy to drop in on the way home sometime and help out if you want.
Cheers.

Re: Returning to Scope Land
Great - thanks very much everyone.
I'm still tossing up if I will go dedicated PC or opt for an osx86 dual boot build (FrankenMac / Hackintosh).
So . . for the latter , , I'll have to sort out if the hardware is compatible with OSX
but I digress -
thanks again

Re: Returning to Scope Land
Ok - well this is what I have come up with.
Does this sound like it will work ok with a Scope Project (Pulasr II) card?
The main guts would be:
MB: INTEL DP35 DP
CPU: Core 2 QUAD Q6600
GPU: Geforce 8800GT PCI Express
RAM DDR2 2GB x2
Thanks
I'll figure out the enclosure, drives and PSU later on

Re: Returning to Scope Land
That system should be fine for scope. I wouldn't expect there to be any problems with it.

Re: Returning to Scope Land
Hi,
just wanted to pop back in and say thanks to you helpful bunch.
Just finished building the new PC.
Went with an ASUS P5K-E Wifi/AP Motherboard and a 2.4 core 2 Quad - nice !
Scope is running perfectly well - not a hitch in getting it up and running.
Which is just as well because I would be tormenting you all with newbie questions.
Anyway,
thanks again
regards
Brett

I am currently going through the same process. I need to build a rackmount machine (PC) to hold three creamware cards.AudioIrony wrote:Hi,

For live performance I'm going to use remote desktop (or VNC) from a laptop over wireless and leave the PC in the rack.

Re: Returning to Scope Land
oops spoke too soon - had one hitch with ASIO2 and XTC mode with Cubase SX3.
But I think it will be sorted - disabling XTC mode anyway
