r all of you including me who suffered from this anoing error in logic audio, i got an cure...It works both on 98SE+ME. I'm under ME and had a greta running setup, many fx (dsp+vst),tracks etc,,,but sometimes this dreaded error. Now I already installed 98lite in chubby mode but after installing (on clean hd) the micro mode and adding "speu.exe", a microsft update for win98/se dll, msblabla.dll etc..that causes windows/pulsar to crash or causes instability. Use the micro mode and install windows. uncheck virtually everything , except directmovie , but don't install directx..yet! After windows is installed and you updated motherboard drivers etc so you have a working setup run "Regclean.exe". (can be obtained from microsoft.com). Also use "easycleaner", get it at http://www.download.com.
USe them both!! now, install Logic/ cubase + plugins etc...other programs. after that. run 2 above prog. again. now install directX. I use 8.1 and is great , no probs! Now install pulsar (propack etc..)
after this again regclean and eazycleaner...to clean the register and delete all entries. now boot! and tweak windows with the various guides on the net. http://www.bluelifeaudio.com for example. now boot, boot, boot after every tweak if nessecary and at last install "speu.exe" and only if all other programs you use are alrady installed....voila...clean windows and no crashes. MAC ??? never.....

1St of all, i'm no mac hater, i used to work on them, and i really like them!! Now for my reply...as on cw forum:As a matter of fact...i owned a mac...a beige g3 minitower.
When i bought this baby in '97, it was $$$ now if i would get an G4 now it cost me much...i have learned that if you build your own pc with good pheriphals, you don't need to spend much money. But i agree that mac runs just fine (moslty) right out of the box and is THE standard for pro-audio. especially pro-tools. At this time i configured my pc and it runs just as a mac...flawlessly, no errors and faaaaast. You see, I do know what mac is all about and really like it , but there are cheaper pro sollutions just to run cubase/logic. etc.. in the end, it just comes to what you make of it.

Cheers,
M

ps. that last word about "never mac" is just to stimulate pc users..that it is possible..sorry for the misunderstanding, but pc users laltey have to put up with lot'sa trash. and yes i'm pro too...

Since our mac is connected digitally with wordclock, lightpipes,AES/EBU,spdif, ect... we can't risk turning it off. It usually runs for weeks before turning it off.
Would like to see windows and how it'll behave after a couple of weeks, heck after a couple of days. (I own 2 PC's, collecting dust mainly)

I run mac at home too. Quicksilver MAC G4 running a HL-server. Had it running for 2 weeks online. I play games, install new software ect... never need to reboot.

For me that's the real thing. That's why ppl with 25.000 USD soundcards don't trust MS...

I'm happy that u have a system as stable as mac! Send in your computer and have it patented....I'm sure u'll get some serious cash...

Anyway go and make some music, that's what it's all about...

With WinXP, my record is 83 days before reboot with rock solid performance. I only had to apply some service updates which required a reboot. XP on a well configured PC with quality hardware is very reliable.
