I see Gigapulse is listed as legacy product as well. I just sold my copy of that a couple months ago and feel like i'm playing musical-chairs with music gear out here, got to get rid of stuff before the music stops and it becomes worthless.

I still use " Old Dead Scope Cards ", so yes.

I would love to see a 64bit STS w/ no RAM limitations for Scope. I can actually convert so much content to STS w/ ESC it makes me laugh.

Gigastudio has been dead for years as far as developers go anyway. Wavelore made the incredible Pedal Steel Guitar, but it was just too late to save Giga from the axe.

It just shows you, these big outfits come and buy an app, and if they let it go undeveloped for a while it loses the developers and the sales. Tascam was actually stupid to buy it and not actually develope it when they first jumped in. So this is something I actually experxcted after one of the guys on the software team didn't respond back about a topic I wished to see further developed. They just didn't sell enough of 'em.

There are many other options and as a playback device GVI can't be beat. But VSTi
s live is definately a no go with me.

We need a RAM based sampler like STS6000 w/ limitless RAM and 64bit. I see a chance for the guys at Sonicore to save the world from these overbloated streamers that have taken over the world. Nothing feels better than a hardware sampler live, but let's face it, the Akai's w/ 256MB was a joke after playing the first Gigastudio Piano.

C'mon Holger,......Bring STS into this century and rid the world of generic romplers. I can still use Gigastudio's GVI until 2010 if need be.

64bit RAM based samplers are the future,.....I feel it in my bones.

Please no more pm's...................I am in mourning for a couple days.

Here's something from Larry Seyer. Make your opinion known.

http://www.opengigastudio.com/

This app can still be used w/o further developement for at least 2 years. I will play it safe and use GS4 to create my performances to play in GVI using Bidule as a host.

We have seen how mature Scope became over the years and we could have another run like that. If STS had limitless RAM or used the 3GB Switch in SP2, and attached a DFD streamer many guys here would be happy, and I could transfer so many libraries via ESC.

to be honest Jimmy... I don't think TASCAM ever bought Giga for the sampler alone
it was cr**ked and floating the net less than half a year after it's original release by Nemesys
TASCAM probably was just interested in the recording technique to apply it to their mobile (hardware) devices

nevertheless my regrets in case your mourning continues
but as you'd put it... one door closes, another one opens
maybe have a peek on Emu's Emulator X as the next sellout candidate... (?)
I really dunno, but keep stumbling across the 99 Euro offer at Thomann for the full version 2.

afaik (have read about) it will make filing your own programs to keyboard a breeze

cheers, Tom

Maybe but GVI was never cracked successfully so they could have given it a better chance...

Has anyone else found that different sampler software has a different sound? I noticed the STS is better for bass registers but not as good in the treble register compared to a couple of VSTi sample players I tried. More specifically drums and bass had more bottom end and punch with the STS while airy flute sounds were decidedly muffled. I never owned an AKAI but I was thinking this was a result of the STS being a copy of the AKAI? or maybe it is because I'm using the SC mixer instead of the Cubase mixer? Anyone have any ideas on this. I don't like the STS because it is really tedious to use. Someone said the STS series wasn't meant to compete with other programs yet it was kinda expansive.

Astroman,....you are right about Nemesys, GVI is a dongle based item which helped, but not to much obviuosly. I will continue using it because under Bidule I load tons of quality instruments.

Emulator X is a mature product with 30 years of maturity behind it. You won't be disappointed.

Brotha' Man Braincell,

You are correct about quality and differnce in sound. But these indifferences can all be enhanced anyway. The real time latency is the most important. That's why I believe that RAM based samplers that stream their content are the best way to go, as they are RAM based actually due to their buffers. STS series is 32bit, but died on the vine years ago as far as keeping current with the evergrowing size of libraries and instruments. SC actually could be an amazing sampler, because it actually is a sampler already. DFD streaming and a 3rd party converter would make this sampler truly incredible in 64bit @ 96Khz. Then having Scope FX added....? Jesus H. Christ,..what more could one need that that.

For now I will stay with Bidule hosting Kontackt 2 and GVI based performances, since GS4 is still uncomplete, but IS the best way to create keyswitched performances I have ever used.

But now it shall sag downstream, as the life it led...is dead. ( And The Wind..Cries Mary ) Jimi Hendrix 1968.

I agree that SC could be a great platform for samples with a little more imagination. I would love to see someone make a hybrid sample/synth. I would love to be able to use resynthesis in SC. My frustration is that all they ever seem to do (with a few exceptions) is copy existing hardware.

Looks like Kontakt has pretty much won (ugh). Or should I say the 'rompler' culture has won (puke). No-one really wants to sample (in the creative sense of the word) anymore it seems, and for those that do, there is generally a sampler supplied with the DAW, or as a reasonably priced upgrade. Often the built-in stuff has good integration with the DAW - for example the Sampler/Simpler in Ableton Live, the MOTU stuff, EXS24 in Logic etc. For everyone else (except Mac dudes) there's the free and awesome Shortcircuit (www.vemberaudio.com). Therefore I don't think many companies are going to enter the sampler market in a hurry.

The Giga/GVI thing eventually just lost its usefulness. It was never much fun to make/edit .gig patches IMHO, and pretty much all libraries are available as Kontakt (which, although pretty crappy, is at least better for editing than Giga).. in a way it was pretty inevitable. Hope you get over it Jimmy :)

I already have my Brotha'.

GS4's editing and creation of keyswitched instruments is strong and useful. I can use Bidule to playback the gsp.'s and also use Kontackt as well. I really don't have to have a certain application, but rather the certain instruments.

The best thing that came out of Gigastudio in the last 4 years was GVI, the pedal down IR from Gigapulse, which everyone quickly copied, and the newly released Wavelore Pedal Steel Guitar Library which is a masterpiece. So sad they announced disconinuation the day he recieved his master copies back for shipping of that fine instrument. He was the very first developer to take advantage of the unknown and overlooked performance features that Gigastudio offered.

I must post a demo of this incredible instrument as a token of appreciation to a developer that had the intestinal fortitude ( guts ) to bring us something beautiful and unique, as opposed to further regurgitations of the same instruments.

Romplers are for the residents of the Romper Room show that ceased to exist in 1994, but lasted for 50 years in the US, Austrailia, and the UK.

Yo Jimmy - I definitely admire a lot of things about the .gig format, and still use quite a few .gig files with a special .gig-friendly version of SFZ+ (I refuse to use Kontakt hehe). I always wished they had developed the format more with creative sampling in mind though. I'd definitely advise trying out Shortcircuit just for shits n grins, as it's free and fun (but it won't play your .gig files  ).

Your giga software ain't gonna stop working though. Did they finish a 64-bit version before they canned it? The future of 64-bit is prone to a lot of flux though, so I'm not sure how long it would keep working with future versions of Windows.

I will look into shortcircuit, thanks. I have the 2 best conversion apps out there so gig files become STS, Kontackt, or whatever I want. It only requires a little work to re create a keyswitch or simialr patch. Afterall if you can program an Emulator sampler, all other apps become very easy to understand. Their Z Plane filters and editing features are xtreme.

I am very content w/ GVI /GS4 and really hope the STS samplers get pushed into this century either now in XITE-1 or in a later update. That is my wish.

You are always on the ball w/ workarounds, tips and apps that aren't mainstream. Thanks for your concerns and sharing of information.

Cheers,

If you're gonna try it, there's 2 versions.

v1 - this is finished and stable.. it's what I use.
v2 - the guy didn't get round to finishing it (lack of time and sales :( )

Some users say v2 is usable but it's an unknown, stability-wise.

So now giga studio is free? How can they just stop selling it when all the development is done already. That doesn't make sense.

Oh that would be sweet if it is open source. Sometimes what happens to orphaned software is it gets sold to smaller and smaller companies and it winds up really cheap.

But just like everyone wanting instruments that can play themselves instead of learning music, developers want easy to use tools for developing, hence KonQuackt.

Just read these censored threads over at the communist forum called Northern Sound Source, and notice how chords being sampled is on the top of the list for features. Jesus H. Christ...spread your lazy ass fingers over the keyboard and play the damn thing yourself !!

NS Forums banish the mere mentioning of the company's name if it doesn't pay them proper tribute. Regardless of the quality of the product. I search for the censored products as they are often excellent in quality, and I often make posts that are a constant source of irrataion to the " elite all knowing, party ruling, moderators ".

Now here again is living proof of the sucess and comradery of this excellent and FREE forum we belong to. I for one donate a meger amount of money yearly.

John Cooper once again rules the best " demoratically free " forum known to man, it reminds me of Nevada where people's votes still count.

Meanwhile Back At The Ranch ...................R.I.P. Gigastudio.

Giga is shot.......get over it, and move on.

but hey there are a lot of gigs out there, to be bought at an mor reasonable price. and for your sampling session...a tracker may be a choice, too. Jus bounce the stuff and integrate it in your normal sequencer ;)
