Most people won't care about this but for those who do, you can thwart the major search engines from tracking your searches with the TrackMeNot Firefox extension:

it inserts a flag to inform the search engine about the fake request
and it tracks the 'real ones' even more thoroughly plus adds the user to a special 'suspective' list
