Hi there

I would appreciate, if you would click http://www.myspace.com/crowsandseagulls and listen to the first song in the player. The reason why I do not post it here, is the rules of my copyright organization.

The band joined in the end of January. This recording is from the beginning of March. It is the first band in which I sing (I know, that I should practise to also sing the end of the words ). The song is recorded live in the studio with no overdubs. We have no illusions that this is release quality performance and engineering. It reflects a step on a learning curve.

I never mixed anything that included drums before MixIt2. So instead of trying to do big shiny things, I have tried to just not fuck up too much by keeping it simple - setting levels, doing simple EQs and finally adding delay to the vocal.

What ever comments come to your mind are wellcome - wether they address the music, lyrics or "engineering".

SP4.5 was used for summing and delay on the vocal.

That's very odd! I know at least one other stranger has been able to listen to the song (he quoted the lyrics). I just tried it myself and found, that the player did not autostart. The song played fine, when I pressed start.

It sounds really good Brotha' Man. You kids must have been at the Whiskey A Gp-Go back when the Doors were hot.

Do you guys play live anywhere. If not you should, it sounds polished, and actually sounded really live on the mp3. I really can only say the bass needs to be hotter. But I would love to hear a Gibson 101 in the mix, or some kind of vintage keyboard, but I am a keyboard guy so what would one expect as a critique from me.

Drums were mic'd up well as I could hear all of the seperate pieces of kit.

Nice job, but many more recordings are coming right?

Hi Jimmy

Thanks for taking the time. We do actually some times talk about wether we want 4 fourth person in as an extra guitar or doing keys. However, we really do like the working dynamics between us in this little trio. Also, this is by far our most dense song. On the other end of the scale is something aiming at representing the state of being between being awake and asleep. We don't have that on disc yet, though. Sometimes we don't even have much to do each of us as it is now.

We don't play live yet. It is our goal to get there though. We need more songs on the list first.

Well you guys will really excell once you perform in public. All the rehearsing and recording in the world doesn't have as much of an effect on performers as...............well performing.

Just find a job slot where you can play 6 songs in a row that you have polished will be a gigantic boost in your confidence, and invite agents and friends to come and enjoy the fun while you pimp yourselves for gigs. That's the unsigned game scenario, but it is a great motivating experience.

I do not suggest a 4th player, but harder work on your players parts to learn some basic keyboards and add to an already successful combination of talent. You have the finest software synths and organs already. I have an incredible preset bank of transistor combo organs on the B2003 where the rotary cabinet is bypassed but the C3 Scanner vibrato just wreaks of the '60's.

I think that's the direction you guys should look at. Often we overlook so many tools and options that are already provided. I just recently discovered FM4, Vectron, and the STS samplers. And I am far from where I want to be. Funny thing is, I was signed when I was 20 years old and went through 4 record deals. They aren't all they are cracked up to be. But I wouldn't trade that experience for all of the Tea In China.

Just step out from behind those closed doors and you will see what's possible. You already have the hardest part completed, don't stop now.

As JV said, more bass . Like your style, heading towards prog at times.
