Does Anyone Enjoy Video Game Soundtracks?

Post by dawman »

I always have enjoyed lot's of soundtracks for animated shows and movies, but I have noticed some newer video games that have incredible orchestrations lately.

More recently Oblivion, and " The Elder Scrolls IV ", is really very impressive.

The instruments used are definately some of the VSL String stuff as I recognize the Appasionatto Strings samples, and they are used to great effect.

It is so much fun having XBox360 and Wii running while I program synth presets.

I have so much fun in the summertime w/ Scope4live junior.

Music is the most bonding experience. I once believed team play and sports were important, but when I can get excited about the quality of sound and video in our studio, which comprises of the dining room, living room, and the entrance way to the crib, I know the bonding power of music.

My boy loves using the hardware controllers on the keyboards, etc. to move the faders of the mixers and do his own re mixes of the Who, etc.

Scope is such an important part of our fun time, even better than the indoor go cart tracks here in Vegas.

But if any ganers reside here at the Z..............You have to hear Oblivion.

Each scene is carefully orchestrated to perfection.

How do they get the music to follow the game in such a perfect way I will never know.

But what a great field to get into. Scope w/ a good sampler app would be a great start.

my favourite video game music/soundtrack is:
gods of war II (also the best video game on ps2)
and rez (best visual and sound combination :) http://www.sonicteam.com/rez/ ) .. rez is the best game to relax :) its a kind of interactive visual and sound creation :)

We just went to view the site and the lowest windows w/ visual oprions and menus would not open, but it looks really cool, and not mainstream Game Stop Stuff.

I will sneak it in as an extra gift for his BDay June 30th.

I am sending him to a gamer creation school in July, Maybe we could be a team. Video by Scope4live Jr.....music by XITE-1 / 4 LIVE..

Thanks 4 The Tip. :D

Diablo and especially Diablo 2 gained a huge reputation for the outstanding orchestral soundtracks. D2 soundtrack was recorded with, I think, the symphonic orchestra of Prague (the live one, not samples). Since those days, quite a lot of game developments have been fitted with a much better budget for decent music. That is a market to rival top shelf movie productions, there are millions in that field of music. And it's worth it. Games with great music make a _much_ better entertainment experience altogether.

Gothic 3 real orchestral recordings. Beautiful!

For gameplay I put Gothic 3 over Oblivion once you download the patches to fix all the bugs! No hand holding and lots of having to explore to find things.

Oblivion is great 2 but the leveling system and the "here's where you need to go" map thing was very disappointing.

I had an earlier Elder Scrolls and I didn't like the orchestral music because it sounded like a movie soundtrack. If it has such a clear melody and definition then you get sick of hearing the same parts over and over again. Game music should set the mood without being too obvious and in your face. I replaced all the songs in Grand Theft Auto with my ambient music and it made it much better. I can not stand radio songs.

How did you replace the tracks?

i AM INTERESTED!!

That would be a great way to have more fun w/ my kid.

Diablo 2 is very good BTW.

These games are very interesting to me .

I have a knack for never completeing most of my original scores. Perfect gig for me, just recording phtases and have certain scenes triggering certain loops.

Hey, I just remembered that I did this with Unreal Tournament ages ago,
I found a converter that made it possible to convert songs from wav( I think..)
to the file-format used in Unreal Tournament.
I just had a peek in the different sub-directories in UT, and realized where
the sound-files were, and did a search on the file-format name, and eventually
found info and a converter for their format somewhere.
In some games it´s as easy as just renaming the file format like ***.wav to ***.xxx... just have a peek in their directories for starters, might give an idea.
Best is probably to go to their users-forum and check what gives and simply ask, unless we have the info from players here..

Well I was talking about GTA San Andreas not the current one. I don't know about that. There is a folder where the songs go I think. It was mp3 format. It's been a long time but I remember it was easy. Not sure if you have to change the preferences. This was on a PC not a console. I was actually wondering if I could submit my music to a computer game company but I found there is really no way to get anything to them.

What is the trick to catching up to the gay guy on the motorcycle who laughs at you? I gave up at that point and went off on my own.
