There I was already celebrating my perfect installation with a cocky post in the "general discussion" area, when suddenly.....

The damn thing keeps wanting activation keys. But even when I feed it the right code it's not impressed.

* Sometimes it will load everything OK.
* Sometimes it load no CW products - even stock "no key" devices (like the micromixer).
* Sometimes it will load one instance, but not a second.

I've fiddled the BIOS, checked all the usual stuff, reinstalled Pulsar etc etc.

To say this is now giving me the sh*ts is, well, quite mild. This is about the most tuned PC any sound card on earth deserves.

And it's a pity because the sound is absolutely perfect and everything else is 100%.

I've done most of the recommended XP tweaks.

system:

Asus P4B266
P4 1.8 512K L2
1 x Barracuda IV 40Gb
1 x Barracuda IV 80Gb
512Mb DDR 266MHz SDRAM
XP home with Planet Z and Tascam optimisation

i had same problems in ACPI mode?!
check in device manager/computer: must be "standard pc".

I'm sure I did that at install. How do I check ? I can see nothing in the device manager that tells me.

Strangely the problem is very rare when I launch first time. But if I exit Pulsar then go back in I almost always get the copy protection problem. Is that a clue ?

This seems a bit much. What's happening with this card when disciples, the totally obsessed and geeks who buy dedicated, specified hardware can't even get the damn thing to work properly ?

You can check Standard vs. ACPI mode by following the steps provided in the "Optimize your Win2k/XP" thread in the Tips & Tricks section. Even tells you how to change this after install.

I'm almost positive you of course have your machine in ACPI mode.

Found it after several probings. Here goes....

.... well the automatic relocation of the hardware components was a bit frightening

I've relaunched and rebooted and six times and every time I can load everything.

I could have sworn that I choose "standard PC".

Well, as usual, Subhuman was right. And Sandrob too - an acknowledged XP master

empathize.i just spent the first part of a week setting up a new system my self,then to make matters worse,i spent the second part setting up a computer to run an automated cdr duplicator/printer.thank god it all works.i pray that it continues to all work.
