Standby Mode
I just did some research. It is possible to go into standby mode with RME Hammerfall cards and recover which also use DSP chips.garyb wrote:scope can't go into standby, it's not a bug. unfortunately() scope is studio hardware not a windows soundcard.
afaik, standby would involve unloading and reloading the dsps, the same as shutting down and restarting, because the computer powers down...
The Scope cards are just poorly engineered in this regard. You might not call it a bug but it is at least bad programming. It's not likely to get fixed either because they don't care about customer satisfaction or complaints.
Hi Braincell. I have a couple of RME Hammerfalls here, and they sure are great products and a great company.
It's true they are DSP based, but this is only intended as a mixer / patcher device to the unit's physical I/O. This is quite different from the sort of thing that goes on inside our Scope cards
But the main issue is that Hammerfall externall boxes are meant to work without the computer, as a fixed signal patcher and AD/DA converter, so they have a setting to allow the current configuration of Totalmix (its DSP software) to be saved to a built in memory, and that's where I believe the main difference lies. Scope cards are not meant to be used without a host computer, and therefore have to rely on its memory, power, etc.
Cheers,
T

The RME is a completely different type of card. It doesn't load various types of processors and synths onto its DSPs. Also it may be FPGA-based rather than DSP based.
In any case, sleep mode has no place on a DAW. Not using the machine? Turn it off, it's not rocket science. And a Scope card has no place in a games machine. There's plenty of other ways of getting great sound quality... just get any card with a digital out and connect it to a good DAC. Would you use an Avid system in a home theater PC??!

If you need that kind of feature, I honestly recommend that you sell your cards and buy an RME card with SPDIF digital out and a nice Apogee/Benchmark/Lavry etc D/A converter. Actually the sound quality will be better than the internal Creamware card converters, and you'll get your sleep mode (and probably a nice loud pop from your speakers when it sleeps... but who gives a fuck, it's convenient and it's your right as a consumer to have it!).

Whenever I've had a piece of gear that didn't work for my purposes, I either sold it if possible or put it away in a box and moved on.
Is there really any point pissing in the wind? It's not nice, it's not constructive and the stress of inevitable defeat sure is not healthy at all. Deal with reality and move on to what works for your needs.
Face it - no-one cares about bullshit consumer concerns like sleep/standby support because they're busy making music with their cards with their computers turned on - exactly what these cards were designed to do.
The cards aren't perfect but they do a lot of stuff that simply is NOT possible any other way. For most people that's means enough to deal with the quirks. I've known a lot of people who had the cards but they weren't suited to their way of working. They all moved on to other gear and are happy and productive.
I can tell you for a fact there is no piece of gear in the world that is perfect. And for the better stuff you have to pay more money because it costs a lot to develop and maintain.
I just can't figure out the logic in what you do on this forum. Or do you simply have an ulterior motive for posting this kind of perpetual techie-tantrum?

Oh man.. it's a public forum. I didn't think one needed to like the poster or the contents of the thread to post in it
My only problem is with some of your posts, and the total lack of any rational logic in them. But of course it's your perogative and you should do as you want. But don't expect not to be called out on stuff if it's total nonsense... this is a public forum after all and you have to be aware that if you say something, it can elicit a response. Cause and effect, no less. It's strange that you don't understand that your posts are pretty aggressive, sometimes catastrophically misinformed, and full of really bad vibes, that will only cause more of the same directed at you. I was actually trying to help by explaining some rather fundamental facts, but again it's your perogative if you don't want to accept it.

Another little point but a very important one - as a user who's invested money in Creamware and will invest money in SonicCore, I actively do NOT want them spending development resources on bullshit consumer features that are available on cheap consumer gear. There are more important things that need attention which are actually the focus of the card. I don't understand why Scope must do everything. Same with all the complaints about no convolution reverb and no updates to the STS samplers. There are lots of convolution reverbs, many are free. There are lots and lots of far more capable samplers, some free. Try ShortCircuit (www.vemberaudio.com). This sampler wipes the floor with STS series, I bought it when it came out (I bought the STS5000 too) and it's now free for anyone to use. Does that make me pissed off? No. What does piss me off is when people are asking SC to plough dev resources into features that are available for free or very cheap elsewhere. It's not going to win SC any more custom because the whole world knows that great samplers are available elsewhere for free, and is more likely to drive the company into the ground. I'd rather see them develop interesting tools that aren't available on other platforms.. I'll be buying Gizzmo when it comes out for example. [/rant]
fortunately the folks at SonicCore give the impression to be well informed, reasonable and pretty determined about what they can achieve and what they'd better leave out...darkrezin wrote:...
