Luna 2496 I/O Box
Luna 2496 I/O Box
I'm in desperate need for another Luna 2496 I/O Box. I know its old but I got one allready, and now I need to expand my setup. Do you have a tip on how I can expand with my exisiting setup - Luna II with the 2496 I/O box - besides buying another 2496 box?

The B*hringer ADA8000s are supposed to be surprisingly good — I know the BBC have racks and racks full of them, for occasions when they need lots of usable preamps and A/D conversion. They go for about £100-150, and have 8 mic pres (piped down one ADAT cable to your card). If you want mic pres as well, that's one of the better budget solutions (it's also one of the less shameful B*hringer products to own — they work, and they don't sound terrible!)
Cheers,
Chris

I agree here, I have one and it is suprisingly good. I have an avalon SP737 and a Joe Meek 6Q as dedicated mic pres. HOnesltly I can't say that the behringer is significanly inferior or noisey. In most applications I can't tell a difference and would never claim that it ruined a recording.

It's B*hringers build quality that bothers me.... In a big way!!
They normally totally sacrifice on build qualtiy to get a unit out cheaply. By that I mean pots which are only secured to the pcb rather than the front panel & pcb, as well as similar cost-cuttings in the button department.... All in all, really cheap sloppy manufacturing!!

edit - I just want to add that I've got rid of every B*hringer piece of gear I've ever owned, not because they didn't work, but because they were so badly built.

I have a couple of SM Pro Audio PR8E 8 channel mic preamps that feed an A16 ultra, and they work really nice, for a ridicoulous price. There is an ADAT extension that can be added:

or the same with inserts for each channel:

At SMPro they made huge efforts lately to improve the quality and these aspects Shrrromz mentiosn about B*er
If you want higher end stuff, there's the focusrite octopre, 8 channel preamp with ADAT outs:

Cheers!
