Congrats braincell! Now, I've a challenge for you.. Do you think you could troll a compleetly non-technical thread on the OT forum too?
Cheers!

You don't like OT posts so your solution is to make an OT post?
that is a nice move from them, even if they don't have to do you that favour, don't you think?braincell wrote:Just got word from Sonic Core. Version 5 is free when you buy the 3 chip card even though it doesn't come with the paid 4.5 version.
and by the way... it is not SC's fault that microsoft changes their driver model every second version of their operating system. do you really think any company gets funded by them for development of new drivers? if there's one company to blame, it is microsoft and not soniccore. scope would have run fine on vista if MS didn't change everything again.
period.

You are pretty funny. Can you imagine someone who bought a computer 5 months ago and today buys a Scope Card, rushes to meet the delivery man,
plugs in the card and... oops it doesn't work! Of course they are giving away version 5, to not give it away with new cards would result in half the cards being returned and a lot of bad press. Think about it. The number one operating system in the world and new cards would not run on it?

it's not a new card. and you don't want vista drivers for your new card, and still you get it for free if you buy the 3dsp card. you want vista drivers for your old stuff. that's a big difference. so what?braincell wrote:You are pretty funny. still it is microsoft that forced the need for new drivers. you can try to ignore that, but that won't help you.
but then, your safe now. you'll get your drivers. and even more power. start being happy. now is the time

The old Win XP drivers work fine on Vista, otherwise that would be a catastrophe for millions of companies. I want the new drivers in the hope that the clock bug is fixed. That I think is not the case. I think the new drivers are addressing some issues with the new PCI-e bus and be available only for ver. 5. In other words the ver.5 driver won't work with Scope ver. 4 or 4.5.
Hello
I have been following this discussion from afar... Now I think is time to put my $0.02 in...
IMHO, it all depends on how you see your Scope/Pulsar card, how you use it and yes, your professional status...
If you see your cards in the same light you see much of your hardware... yes, it seems unreasonable to have to pay money for new operating system support; my case in point, Vista drivers for my Saffire, Novation Remote SL, M-Audio 192 and various other generic hardware, including Syncrosoft and iLok (believe it or not) provided Vista drivers with no additional cost... Not to mention Cubase and Arturia...
However, if you see your Pulsar/Scope as a complete Professional Solution system - which something different than just a hardware DEVICE... well, that's just the way it is - it is standard practice and you'll see similar upgrade/new support pricing schemes in everything from ProTools to CAD/CAM systems, Test Automation Systems, etc... the Scope system fits perfectly in that category...
So everything is in the POV of the user... if your are a Pro, you should have the budget to keep it running in whatever environment you plan to use it.... moving to another environment and/or platform is carefully planned along wit the budget to do it... Support and/or update contracts are common if not required on many solutions.
The Pro knows this and deals with it accordingly...
However, the consumer, is not used to this type of systems... and will certainly balk at the cost structure associated with running and maintaining a pro solution...
The last problem is that, I think many (of course not all) of Scope's customers are closer to the hobbyist (and therefore a consumer) type and will see this cost as unreasonable...
Of course, please don't get offended, I am not referring to YOU - is just a generalization kind of necessary to support my comments!
Myself, I am firmly in the hobbyist/consumer camp... and found the cost of keeping up to date and expanding Scope not my liking. I am however (and that's the reason I am still hanging around the forums) looking forward to the Plugiator and will order as soon as I can... since it is really more of a self-contained device, closer to a consumer product...
Just my $.02... Pls, feel free to disagree...

if they had half a braincell they would have made sure the computer was running an OS that the card was meant to work with. who cares about some flash graphics and dx10, Xp is more about reliability and compatibility.braincell wrote:You are pretty funny. if you want another ASUS made PC that works with even less things, but is supposedly more reliable..get a mac.

BTW braincell, did you get the upgrade to Cubase 4 for free? Thought not. You could look at it this way: it's Cubase 4 which is 'forcing' you to get Scope 5.0 by introducing a new bug to ASIO.

It's like when you buy any software now you get the full software. i use Avid for work and all you do when you buy the Pro versions is buy a key to unlock the Pro parts of the Avid package - you already have the full Avid package in front of you, you just don't necessarily have the licenses for all of the options.
If you bought 4.5 you bought it. If you didn't you didn't and you're not using it. It's that simple. i bought it when it was €98 - i didn't get as many devices relatively for the money as some but i was still happy to pay for what i got (and i didn't obsess about trying to sell the few duplicate keys i had
