Kool Diff (techno)

Post by FrancisHarmany »

Ok this is some techno I have been making with my new project setup.

Using the new HPLP from shroomz, triggering varius advanced delays on the drum tracks when I feel like it!

al routied through SpaceF FB5 and then MB4G!

This track is mostly to test my drums! I send it to some DJ friends so they can compare with tracks they play on parties....... no synths yet or anything. I just like the sound this setup is giving me, I hope you too :)

See I always fear I use to much low frequencies and my drums will sound
like crap when played very loud :)

Oh yeah, I also made a mistake in soloing some wrong channels somewhere, its very obvious :)

Nice Going Brotha' Man FH !!

You sneaky Bastard, how'd ya' git an FB5?

I'm sure you like it.

What settings did you use here? FAT or National Enquirer Front Page FAT.

For a minute I thought I was @ my neidhbors watching the fine young'ns slammin'. Sounds Kool 4 sure. Nice and gritty.

Might I suggest a little movement from SpaceF's 3LFO's device?

It would take your tracks and move them around the stereo field in a mesmorising kinda way.

Haven't hooked the track up to my sub yet, but the low 20's are where they should be, and nice and ngritty also.

Fine Job Ladd.

PS Since you have the FB5 / and that fierce grouper known as MB4, the 3LFO's is a must. I would be happy to send you a preset to use as a starting point since you're in the same club now.

The FB5 misteriously popped up in my spacef download area..... (dont tell mehdhi!!! ;) )

Ok, I routed all my ASIO into FB5, the direct outs go the MB4.
FATness is on on all drum channels. FAT2 is on the masterout also.

All the drums but one are routed into the same MB4-Bus and PSY'qed to
make the lows play nicely. One kickdrum goes to XL:2 input to make
sure the 4/4 tempo stands above the rolling drums!

BTW there are already 2x3LFO devices loaded in the project but not yet connected to the mixers ;) So I will take your advice and start conneting them :P

I am waiting for my FAT II keys from Ralf.

He has sure been quiet lately. Maybe Bridget the babe will send me the keys?

TASCAM always gets quiet prior to a trade show or release of some special product,.......maybe, just maybe they have the new Scope 5 stuff ready for MusikMesse !!

FAT II on the way out sounds like fun, I can't wait to use it.

PS Try a high amount on a slow sine wave for that old style Fender Rhodes suitcase spaeker panning thing.

The local Metro Police use it at parties to see who is tripping on Xta-c. They just click on 3LFO's and anyone who falls over dancing is supspect. Those pans are so dangerous.

Mehdi has so many tricks you need a manual for each device.

Check the preset thread for FB5 / 3LFO Presets. I don't know how else to send them to you.

In this example you would run your stereo channels into 2 mono, and hard pan them left and right.

Then make sure you have the channels Filter selection made. I use the LP and drag it in w/ F ( cutoff Freq. ) set to max, and resonance set to zero. This way you can use the 3LFO's w/ no filtering from the channel, but the filter must be activated to use the 3LFO''s.

You will experiment with the Modulation Edit section in the lower left left part of the FAT BASTARD 5 mixer. I have it set for a slight Fender Rhodes Pan. The 2nd preset is a heavier slow doppler emulation of a rotary cabinet, where the horn spins very slow. Speeding up the rate in the 3LFO device will give you a faster speed of course.

Be Fruitful And Multiply.

aaah I get it now, thanks for explaining. Your approach definitly works.

Its very cool to have differnt AUX send settings on the 2 channels. Very cool! :)

Since I was using the filters already I Also played with CC8 to create CC's for panning. Also nice, but adds CPU of course.

The only problem with your approach is I have to sacrifice mono channels :(

Mehdi is thinking about pan modulation though..... so I am sure he will come up with a cool approach :) PanSat maybe.......

However the biggest problem I have is choosing what I will use the mixers modulation signal for..... filter or insert effects.....
Basicly I would like around 4 modulation signals per channel:
- Filter
- PanSat
- GainSat
- Inserts

Yups, that would rock my modular mixer world 8) I've been dreaming about insert slots which have a pre-assigned modulation signal.... so insert 1/2/3 would always have mod A/B/C :P
Oh yeah, in this vision I also have gain settings for each modulation signal

I just corrected my statement, the filters must be set to nax on the LP.

You can use the stereo channel to do this also. I just like to add different mono effects to the 2 mono channels giving them a wider sound. It will change the levels between the two channels when doing this, but simply adjust the FAT, or the fader to match.

Yes, The modulation Gain is also very nice for adjusting what range the signal modulates. Its next to the mod-source selection area for each mixer channel.

it sounds a bit overreverberated?
I would at least cut the lows of the reverb a bit, and/or put the kick louder.

Hi Frans, you and Jimmy made my day yesterday :-)

Some comments on questions about FB5
- gain sat can be used to make pan, just like the filters, but by modulating gain
- Yes, more modulation destination is what i am thinking about. Not easy; should i remove an insert, should it be a seperate device, should it be a seperate modulation source/dest circuit....
but we'll make it at the end ;-)

Cheers

Glad we can add to your days as your devices do to ours :)

I am very happy you are thinking about more mod-source (mind you, I wont let you forget anyway)!

I suggest you built it in a seperate deviice first, which we put after the mixer and before the MB4! That way we can play with it before you finish updating the whole mixer circuits :P Or you wont have too if this approach works ;)
