Completely lost with re-install

I recently did some "file maintenance" to clear out my C: drive which was getting full. I must have deleted some files that I shouldn't have - since afterwards whenever I tried to run Cubase 4 it crashed just after the application finished loading.

I scanned the Cubase error log file and it seemed to suggest that he problem was with my Creamware hardware or software (Pulsar II card running Scope 4.0 for PC).

So I decided to reinstall Scope 4.0 cleanly from scratch. I uninstalled the existing Scope software from my machine and then downloaded Scope 4.0 for PC from the website.

I am now running the Scope 4 setup application after unzipping the download from the web. Is this the right thing to do? Or do I need to reinstall the Pulsar II card, and or the associated ASIO drivers etc, first?

Yep, the Pulsar II card looks fine in Device Manager.

I did uninstall the Scope 4.0 software - when you say delete the folder manually, you just mean the folder I initially installed into, right? If so, yes I have deleted that.

So now I am reinstalling. I have downloaded and unarchived the installer package. When I run setup it asks me which package to install – what should I say? Whichever I choose, when I try to import my keys from the allkeys.skf file, I see a number of error messages which state “Cannot open registry file!”. I continue to click OK a number of times. None of the keys are populated with values and I cannot make any more progress.

I have already successfully installed APSP 4.71 from the adaptec site.

I am using a local copy of the allkeys file on my hard drive - it's sitting under the app/bin subdiretory of the main install folder.

What's odd is that I am able to run the SFP executable from within the .../app/bin directory - and the Scope software starts up...and when I go into the Set/Registry menu, I can see all of the modules with apparently valid keys entered against them...

This looked OK, so then I enabled the Scope platform for XTC mode...but when I relaunched Cubase 4, and entered Device Setup, the Scope ASIO driver was not available as an option to select in the pulldown under the "VSY Audio System" section.

remove the card. start the computer. shut down the computer. reinstall the card. restart the computer, you will then be prompted to reinstall the driver. it must work.

an easier way, but a little less surefire is to go to the device manager and unistall the scope card's devices in the multimedia tree. restart the computer, you should then be prompted to resinstall the driver....

there is one thing that puzzles me, you say you enabled xtc mode. you closed Scope after that, and before opening Scope, no?

I just want to check please - I can then still use the win2k driver on my original factory Pulsar v3.0 CD-ROM, right?

Regarding the question on XTC mode - yes I closed Scope after I enabled XTC and then opened Cubase 4. But unfortunately the Scope ASIO driver was not available to select....

sure you can, but i'd use the win2k driver in the 4.0 install files....same either way.

I reinstalled the driver. It looks like it was successful - I checked the Device Manager and it looked to be working OK. It's using Driver Vesion 1.50.10.0.

I restarted my PC again just for the hell of it.

Under Sounds And Audio Devices in XP, its using the Creamware card for sound recording and playback.

When I load Cubase 4 however I still don't see the Scope ASIO as an available option in Device Setup...

yes, this is a cubase 4 problem that someone else had as well. unfortunately i don't remember the exact solution, i believe it had something to do with multiple versions of cubase. is there more than one cubase version on your machine?

as i remember, he had to completely remove all vestiges of cubase from the computer and then reinstall cubase(with the scope driver installed, which you have) which fixed it....

i think you need to remove sx....

have you tried to select the scope asio driver in scope mode?

I'm I OK removing Cubase SX if it solves the problem - since at the moment I am dead in the water - but ideally I would keep it on my machine since I use it as a reference point for old Cubase projects after I create a copy of the project and save it as a C4 project. So OK this is maybe the last resort?!

have you tried to select the scope asio driver in scope mode?

with xtc disabled and scope open(asio source and dest modules in the routing window along with sequencer midi source and dest modules) open cubase and try to select the driver. if you open the samplerate window, what does it say?

it's possible that you don't have i/o enabled in xtc mode, in the scope folder there's an app called i/o enabler, running this may help.

maybe someone remembers the trick.....

Woohoo! After struggling with the registry for a few hours now, I finally found that the workaround suggested by rrkradio on thread http://www.planetz.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=13222 worked...create in advance the folder where you like to install the software. Pretty lame bug in the installed in my humble opinion, but...

After a successful install the Scope ASIO driver reappeared in Cubase 4.

<Sigh>

Thanks so much for all of your help...hopefully back to making music now...

One last question if you don't mind...

I initially downloaded the v4 installer and unzipped the contents into C:\Creamware. When I ran Setup.exe succesfully, it created a directory C:\Program Files\Creamware\Scope_v40\... and a variety of subdirectories. Can I then go back and move the initial installation files in C:\Creamware (to e.g. another hard drive) without impacting the ongoing stability or running of the program?
