Hi again, in addition to my previous post, I came up with this question.

I own a Emagic AMT8 midi interface which is hooked up to my usb interfaced CW DAW.

My question is since the amt8 device supports both connections to usb or com-port which one is the best in terms of speed, and stability of course. This came up since some usb devices seem to give problems in audio workstations.

thx in advance

Under 2k/XP, you can only use the serial on the emagic interfaces, anyway.

Serial is also more stable in my testing, with a K5000S sending active sensing, the USB connected AMT8 would freeze (regardless of CW installed or not), with serial, that problem went away.

That said, there are probably people where the USB connection works fine for their studio and computer setup.

Since I'm using WinXP almost entirely now, I'm using the serial connection on my AMT8.

Thx for the reply, guess I'll change it to the serial then, you never know what might happen if I don't

Sub's right, I also have AMT8's and both run way better on serial than on USB!

Is the AMT8 the one to get? I need to buy a midi interface. The AMT8 seems more expensive than I would like to pay. I bought a Linksys USB ethernet and it doesn't work at all. I'm very leary of USB now.

AMT8 is nice for Logic and WinXP; I actually have an 8x8 Mark of the Unicorn (MOTU Midi Express XT) that uses Parallel port and works brilliantly under Win9x/ME/Mac, but I had trouble under XP, and decided to just get an AMT8 to get the timing benefits with Logic... but my MOTU did work okay on a 98/ME box and it was cheaper.

I'm going with the Emagic interface even though I use Cubase, maybe one day I'll use Logic. I just have a bad feeling about MOTU. I owned one once. I don't think they will support their old hardware as long as Emagic will. I think Emagic is more interested in building a loyal customer base.
