I cut about 1 1/2 minute from the second part of the track.
It's more streight forward now, and the mix is more powerfull due to some volume corrections 08-03-2007

after the Katrina New Orleans flood Spectrasonics created a mini drum and percussion loop collection to benefit the victims ( http://www.spectrasonics.net/neworleans/ ).
I built a new track based on two of the included loops, edited in slice editor Phatmatic Pro.
The Elektron MonoMachine does the lead sound plus the wildly panning fx parts.
Op-8 and SparC from Wavelength/Stephen Hummel do some fx kinda with voicing character, and some drones.

I didn't intend to comment the hurricane event as such, somehow the atmosphere got to be a bit creepy yet.

Excellent, It sounds like Meat Beat Manifesto. I like the drums. These are drum loops? The drums sound flanged or something. They should be more punchy. Somehow the tone of the drums is lacking clarity and definition.

well heard, it's caused by a too short delay with short time set, I played a bit with the send, but not all the time.
I should re-record the drumfile, that time setting was a mistake actually
not a problem, there's more to do, like adding some controlling to the lead synth.

the beat, it's an 8 bar beat, and I also used a ride cymbal loop of 2 bars which serves except as a ride also as a filtered 'noise' loop along the drive partly.
Except BD and most SD the slices of the beat are cut-off by the slices' envelop of Phatmatic in some parts, like in the intro.

I let it rest for a week or so, and comments can be usefull too

on another site I read this description:
'Second lines originated at New Orleans funerals. On the way to the cemetery, a brass band would play slow and sorrowful songs while the mourners walked behind. On the way back home, in celebration of the deceased's life, the band would strike up joyful and high-spirited music and the mourners would dance behind the band. This tradition continues today.'

I always loved the Meters band for the ridms, their most known song is Chicken Strutt, and I guess the Spectrasonic's benefit collection titled 'New Orleans Strut' is called after that songtitle

I liked this song from the first second. It starts off with lots of character and personality and I love the little variations in the drum playing. Nothing like switching it up. Then the smooth bass kicks in and it's just "yeah".

I feel like improvising on top of it.
The atmosphere is so rich in tones and FXs that I feel like walking in a beautifully lighted night street where you receive quite different impressions while you walk.

It leaves a tension there (I just 'found' it tho)
