Podcasting Made Easy

Post by braincell »

I finally am getting ready to begin my podcast. I do not like coding and Apple has made it more difficult by adding their own tags which they require. If you want more people to hear your podcast, it should be on iTunes. I find iTunes to be the best podcatcher and it is free. The podcasts are also free and have no DRM so I highly recommend it.

Here is a way to Podcast that I think anyone in this group could handle:

1. Get a domain with a host that has wordpress blogging software. I like www.bluehost.com.
2. Download and install the plugin "podpress" at http://www.mightyseek.com/podpress/
3. Upload your mp3 and begin podcasting!

Wordpress is open source software that is written in PHP and backed by a MySQL database just like Planet Z is. You can observe the advantage is that it is easy to use.

I heard about something called the internet 10 years ago but it never really caught on. You are wasting your time reading this site.

First of all I am doing a music podcast with no talking.

Secondly, podcasting is more popular than ever with thousands of podcasts on every topic not only from individuals but many from NPR, the BBC and media corporations.

Thirdly, you don't know WTF you are talking about. Don't post to the forum when you are obviously, so totally ignorant about the subject.

You don't grasp what web 2.0 is. It's interactive and connected and above all not static.

Let's look at some of the top podcasts:

http://popcasts.po-di-um.net/

Can you show me in these lists where the old men and politicians are? I don't see any.

"In 2007, Podcast.com tracked over one million
podcast access connections via the Podcast.com portal"

"Podcast.com is the premier podcast
destination that provides access to a growing list of over 43,000 curated and
updated podcasts representing more than 175,000 hours of audio and video
content. "

-> failed to access to ranking database
Now I see... Yep. Press and media is indeed in need of intiializing themselves.

Who cares?

Web 2.0 is based on control mechanisms. The new thing for consolidation of humanity and a preventive war against individualism.

Tell me who are you giving your data by using myspace or any of the others?
Do you know exactly what's happening with it?

An it's a businessmachine for lawyers gaining money from shit.

The millions of people are only reviewing the the things they want - football socccer, and some of the common tv shows...except from somekind of friendship.

In germany it is used to increase the Tvtax you pay here. Hey - you want more? go to www.thehell.de ? And the nex step is paying 5 to 10 € more each month for being able to do so.

Music podcasting? If somebody knows you & likes your music he`ll probably use it - esp if you made a common hit or you're somwhat on tv.
Anthing else doesn`t matter. Nobody is really interested in the things you're doing, thinking and producing, except from further chiefs if you apply for another job or else like that. And nobody will be.

Why are you even posting here if not many people will read it and you are not making money off it? Isn't it a waste of time for you?

Web 2.0 isn't just about Myspace and Facebook. This site is an example of web 2.0. You can think whatever you want but podcasting is here to stay. The name might change but the concept is not going away.

I was just listening to Jim Butler's "Dark Ambient " Podcast. He only has only a few episode of his podcast and he already has 23,000 downloads of the last episode and people are offering to pay him.

When my first podcast is done, I will be inviting select people in this group to listen to it who have shown an interest in my music. I will not post the link here because I do not want Zer to listen to it.

Here is a link to the Dark Ambient site:

Mp3 files with RSS enclosures in a nutshell :P

The point of it is that the RSS makes it possible for special software called "Podcatchers" to automatically download new episodes thus creating a channel.

I listen to 20 podcasts. I don't want to have to visit all these sites, check to see if there is something new, click on it etc. etc..

With one click all the podcasts start downloading. Some people have the computer check every day or night. I prefer the one click manual method.

There is plenty of information about it on the internet and several large sites which list them and try to make it easier to find a podcast you are interested in. I find iTunes great fow downloading them but not particularly good for finding them so I just paste the url into iTunes. I really have about all I can listen to already.

If you don't have the software you can just download the file from the artists webpage with a browser. It is still called a podcast then but it's just an MP3 which you expect will be updated with new shows from time to time.

A podcast is just an audio or video show.

I also have that iTunes thingie installed because it's a conveniert way to quick-check releases of some music I may have read about...
I have no account with them yet - and as convenient the app may be, it really concerns me as I dunno what sh*t it collects and transmits in between sessions.

You do not need an account with them to download podcasts so privacy would not be an issue any more than any other website. All they know about me is my IP address. They also review every podcast before they accept it so it is not like you would be intentionally doing anything illegal. It might be possible through cross referencing my ip they could know my name. I have learned to accept this intrusion. At some point i have to trust they are not evil even though I may be wrong.

I will send you the feed in a private message when the first one is finished. I hope it will be in a week. I need to have three of them before it will be accepted on iTunes so I might as well wait until then before I submit it to the other podcast sites. I'm still working on the design of the website. Someone said it lacked focus. Me lack focus? :)
