Here it is: THE BIG NIGHT!

I'm planning on spending the night watching the sky with my Meade Telescope, trying to get a glimpse of our travelling friend. Unfortunately, I never got around to buying the camera / CCD adapter, so... no pictures.

Anyway, anybody else planning on doing the same? It's chilly here, but I'm hoping for a blue aurora.

BTW, not a single piece of news on TU24 was broadcast in Portugal. And it's not to avoid creating panic, as all we hear is how "all kaida" is planing to attack our country, and how people are dying stupid death because or government thinks it's cool to shutdown hospitals so we can have the TGV... Anything that might bridge the gap between countries / cultures / civilizations / ordinary people is just put aside.

here's to a bright night, and a radiant future.

Cheers,

T

I've got a Meade too, but in these days there are plenty of clouds here... Arg...
and I'm near the city too, so clouds + light's pollution + high magnitudes makes the observation impossible! What a pity!

So, it didn't seem to be a great deal after all...

Now they say that there is a satellite that may fall down anywhere around the globe.

We had one fall here a while back - Skylab.

"An Australian municipality, the Shire of Esperance, fined the United States $400 for littering. In 2004, the History Channel documentary "History Rocks" stated, in an episode covering major events of 1979, that this fine has never been paid. " :D

The claim about the TU24 was not as silly as it seem to be, have a look:

first page only:

neither do I... ;)
what do you expect in winter, anywhere on earth ?
and all those 'extreme' reports in recent years... well, it's probably the omnipresence of 'news-communication' in even the most remote locations and a general change towards a more 'sensational' driven way of reporting :D

cheers, Tom

btw what about the Mars impact thing they announced ?
- oops, predictions were amended...

I’m not sure either, but I wouldn’t demise their findings so fast… We don’t have proves for one side, or the other of the coin. If we want to be truly scientific in our approach, we should nor deny or believe in anything, but rather listen to what people have to say, and then investigate by oneself.
