midi channels? (by logic/pulsar-newbie)
ähm, in logic i can only select whole midi ports to communicate with pulsar. but then i can max. control eight devices...
well, i´m to dumb to find, can you tell me where to assign separate midi channels in logic...? and give me some tipps for using the logic environment? what can i do with it? do i need it when having pulsar?
many thanksssssss!

Newbie,
Start Pulsar with your ASIO drivers(best for Emagic)You could imitate the example in the introduction of the manuel, or you could try inserting a Big Mixer between so you can see where signal is going.(Although you can't see Midi signal)
Now, grab one of the modular devices from the file menu and drag it over between the Midi devices, drop. Connect MIDI Source>Sequencer Dest, then, Sequencer Source>Modular MIn and Modular Midi Out>Midi Dest and the L & R outs go to the Analog dest. Double click on the Modular device and click on the prset list, click on a selection and push enter. Make sure you have a pair of RCA cables connected from the analog out cables to your amplifier inputs. You can also run the L &Routs to inputs on the big mixer and connect the Mon Outs of the Big Mixer to the analog dest.
Good luck,
Chuck

Subject: got me wrong i think. i need separate midi channels
well, thanks for reply. but you got me wrong i fear.
i had some projects with logic already, but... i could only send through the eight virtual midi ports of pulsar.
i´m just to dumb to find the setting in logic where i can assign one of the 16 midi channels of a port to a specific midi track in the logi arrangement.
got me? i want to connect all sample-players to seq. midi source 2, all synths to seq. midi source 4 and on... for that i need separate midi channels. but in logic i can´t find where to set... i can only select the eight ports out the menu. no idea where to assign separate channels...

Newbie,
Sorry if I was too simplistic in my answer. You could problably teach me about Pulsar. To get a Midi signal through the Pulsar/Emagic system, the Midi device must be positioned after the Sequencer Source module. If you insert it between the Midi source and the Sequencer dest - nothing happens in Logic. I'm just learning this stuff too and I would like to be able to insert a canned, Midi drum program in Emagic to go with live guitar and vocals. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Newbie,
There are a couple people at the TASCAM forum who are working on Macros to control all 16 channels of the TMD-1000 mixer from Emagic, through Midi. The link I'll give you will actually insert a 16 channel "project window" right in your Emagic program. These are mostly designed to remote control the mixer, but you may gain some new insight to working with 16 Midi channels in Emagic. One thing I've learned with Emagic is that when you open the "Track Mixer", if you go along and click on the record buttons across the ausio and Midi sliders, any live sign will register if a signal is on that track. You won't see it if you don't hit record while the signal is active.
Keep us posted if you learn somthing worth passing on. Here is the link: www.tascambbs.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000908.html

I read your other posts and this, sorry I must say something here is not right! Why? see this as follows:
a> Each MIDI-source(1~8) has 16 MIDI-CH (16x8 = 128 CH). So when your MIDI-seq is used more than 16-CH, in the Logic you must assign multiple-MIDI "ports" like pulsar-MIDI-out1~8 for example. In this case you mentioned, might be about only 16-MIDI-CH, you don't need to use individual ports.
b> Here is how you setup on the Pulsar project: Asuming you use four sample-players and four pulsar-synths, you only need ONE MIDI-SOURCE1 then from here you will connect to all MIDI-in of all sample-players and Pulsar-synths in paralell then each samples/synths you must assign the dedicated MIDI-CH (1~16). Here's also an example as follows:
Sequencer-SOURCE1 --> sample-player1 MIDI-CH1
.................................................................................
Sequencer-SOURCE1 --> sample-player4 MIDI-CH4
Sequencer-SOURCE1 --> Pulsar-synth1 MIDI-CH5
.................................................................................
Sequencer-SOURCE1 --> Pulsar-synth4 MIDI-CH8
.................................................................................
And so on for the Sequencer-SOURCE2~8, where "Source(x)" is matching the Pulsar-MIDI-Out(x) are being setup on the Logic-MIDI program. You will have the total of 128 MIDI-Channels, sameway, you can connect to Bmixer-MIDI-In as well. Don't forget, you must assign its own MIDI-CH. That's all.
Anyway, again, in case you want more, you will find in the MIDI setup, there is something in the Logic like pulsar-MIDI-out1~8 and you probably need to have it's available in the windows setup cause the default only has 2 MIDI-I/O ports.
Sorry, I don't currently use the Logic even I'm having it but the concept might be same in the cakewalk what I'm using now.
Hope this helps.
