searching for ZLink I/O plate or Luna ADAT Extension

Post by Janni »

I've got a not properly working Luna extension (If connected to the luna (with powersupply!), EVERY channel gets distorted or at least zips, clicks and pops.
Anyone aware of that problem?)

So, I'm searching for an other Luna ADAT extension or a ZLink-plate...
Of course, a ZLink-plate would be nicer... :D
Cheers,
Jan

why dont you just buy another luna2/powersampler2 card?
That will give you 3extra dsps and the zlink+ stereo in/out+midi in/out+spdif in/out

I have one for sale if you want it 8)
i even live in denmark so shipping would be cheap and fast.. oh i should be in the selling stuff-business!
pmail me if you are interested :D

The problem is, it's a 3 card setup already (1 p2 with adat i/o, 1 p2 booster and 1 luna with ALL keys on it...).
But thanks for the input!

dang it
but i know you can change the "plate" of the cards..
I did that myself. I had a 15dsp card with adat and unbalanced in/out and a pulsar2 with adat and balanced in/out and AES/EBU. A guy wanted to buy the 15 dsp card BUT with the AES/EBU, adat etc etc. plate on it. So i switched them.. its only a matter of unscrewing 4 screws..
so i would buy a zlink plate from soniccore for 198 euro and put it on your pulsar 2 card..

or.. transfer your keys to the pulsar2 card and buy the powersampler card i have  just kidding

janni, what did you connect to the second z-link port (I assume you refer to that instead of using the adats)? a second luna I/O box or the second half of an a16u? if so, did you already swap the connectors to see whether the i/o box is fine or not?
I nevertheless have a spare luna expansion available. yes, another luna too, but then, you don't want it anyway... :)

I've connected the A port of the A16 to the luna ZLink and everything is just fine!
If I connect the ADAT expansion, the clicks and crackles are on ALL Zlink inputs (A&B port of the A16) and on ALL ADAT inputs of the luna.
If I connect the B port of the A16 to the luna (without ADAT expansion) everything is fine again...
So I think the A16 is alright...
The P2 ADATplate inputs work just fine...
Every scope board has it's own IRQ and without luna ADAT expansion the system runs rock solid!
I just tried to put the syncplate terminator on the ADAT expansion, but the same result... :-?

ah yes, seems you're kinda right with your assumption. but if you have an a16u, there is almost surely no need to connect the floppy power cable to the extension. did you try to unplug the power cable and do tests afterwards?

It didn't work out without power supply....
Just the same results... Crackles all over....
Well, now I think I can say: That ADAT expansion is broken!

If anybody wants to sell a WORKING ADAT expansion or a WORKING
Z-LINK plate, I'm here!!!

double check your master/slave relationships on both ends of the cable. there can only be one master....

That is done...
Scope is master, A16 Z-Link-slave,
Yamaha 01V is slave to ADAT Option.
If I leave out the ADAT expansion and connect the 01V ADATs to the P2 ADAT IO Plate and use only 8 Channels from the A16 via ZLink,
everything works smoothly... Doesn't matter which port of the A16, both A&B work correctly)
But to get the whole picture:

The working setup looks like this:

1 PC with P2 (ADAT), P2 (XTC) and Luna (without expansion) and set to MASTER
1 MacPro with RMEs Digiface and set to Autosync (prefered source is WC from A16,
but it works also without the wc connection using ADAT sync, perhaps even better?)

Pulsar2 ADAT IOs:
A I+O to RME Digiface A
B I+O to RME Digiface B
C I+O to Yamaha 01V

Luna:
ZLink to A16 A (or B, both checked)

(A16 WC out to Digiface WC in)

SPDIF out to Mindprint DI-Port (Slave)

If I connect the ADAT expansion and use the second ZLink port for the second A16 port and the first or second ADAT port for connecting the Yamaha 01V,
all Luna ins suffer from crackling... The P2 ADAT ins work perfectly (doesn't matter if Digiface or 01V is connected)...
To complete it, with expansion but no ZLink connections, the ADAT Ins of the expansion are crackled... (to be sure, I even removed the A16-Digiface WC connections and set the Digiface to ADAT-Autosync).
So, I think the expansion is broken... :(
Or am I wrong somewhere?

Thanks for your efforts, guys!
Perhaps it's better to move this one to problem solving, isn't it?

Janni, try slaving everything from the 01V. You probably shouldn't need to change the way it's connected. If it works, then Scope & the RME will both be slaved to the Yamaha running as Master. (Scope will pass the sync on to the RME).

Well, I don't think that would help, because the 01V perfectly syncs to the ADAT signal.
And since the RME outputs also crackle (if connected to the ADAT IN of the expansion, they don't crackle with the P2 ADAT INs!) I think it's the expansion...

Another point is, most of the time only Mac and Scope are used. The 01V comes
only into action when more than two turntables are used.... :D
