yamaha buys boesendorfer
big news? I think no matter who's hands boesendorfer ends up in, I hope their craftsmanship never gets lost. It'll be a loss of the human race. They should be protected by unesco or something.

Bosendorfer has those extra low end keys for Rage music.
Yamaha Grands are built very well, and maintain their tuning when moved better than any other piano made. But their sound is un-unique at best.
I still prefer Steinway Chickering Upright Grands, 7 footers, and 9's over any thing made.
Liberace's Baldwin Grand here in Las Vegas is the best sounding Grand Paion I ever played believe it or not, and they say it's the mirrors, I rather believe it was played and pampered for years and became the best sounding Piano.
Slightly off topic, I hate when big governments or corporations take over anything, as it seems to be the bottom line from then on. ( how much profit )
I read not long ago that the FAB 64 in Saxony, where my ancestors were from, has given AMD 384,000,000 to help them out. I thank the German government very much for that. Otherwise we might be re living those days of the big corporation ( Intel ) sticking it to us with those 1000 dollar, 1GHz Coppermine CPU's. I believe in fair play, that's why I support AMD by buying my son the AMD FX CPU for his gaming / homework PC. Since his grades were good, he gets what we wants most of the time. But the 3000 dollar Blue Les Paul was out of the question.
Slightly off topic again. Gary Garritan who has always been a top shelf sample developer, has joined forces w/ Steinway to bring us the Steinway VSTi Piano w/ real perfromance features like una corda samples ( sostenuto pedaling ) and soundboard harmonics. I think another ship of mine will roll in port around NAMM '08 time.
This could be the real deal finally.
Time will tell.
On the bright side of things,.......maybe Yamaha will let Bosendorfer still build, but cause their pianos to sell for a more competitive price? Doubtful, wishful, thinking.
Happy Holidays To All.

Yeah, like the OBX-m.
Most Grand Pianos are beautiful regardless. It's usually the applications that vary it's usefullness.
Yamaha has the ability and resources to make or break a subsidiary. Their ability to make Steinberg less competitive was shocking IMO. With their experience in making digital hardware sequencers, I am thinking that purchase was made to acquire Steinbergs software skills for use in their hardware at some point. The Bosendorfer acquisition is puzzling for sure.
I do know that Yamaha made the best equipment for hardware in many areas during the '80's and '90's. Their strength through diversity can do great things, like MIDI. But mLan went over like a turd in a punchbowl.
I wish one day they would release a hardware audio/MIDI sequencer w/ it's own O.S. and SSD's. They have the power and resources to turn the audio world upside down. I still use the KX88 / QX-1 / TX816. I have had these for 20+ years !! Incredible builds and design. Front surface soldering and assembly have become the norm now.

It was the silliest pic I ever saw of him.
It reminded me of the X-Speaker of the house, Newt Gingrich. Of course with a corny ass wig.
It's just so Vegas-ish.
I will re post something I am sure we will all appreciate.
I have trouble sleeping at night knowing this is being built.,,,,,Redwood sides, Olive tinted.....yummy.....yummy......yummy, there's a synth in my tummy.
