anyone using Yamaha MOTIF8 classic to control SFP?

I know this topic isn't exactly a 'problem' per se, but I can't seem to figure this out.
Is there anyone out there using Yamaha's MOTIF8 classic to control various modules & mixers in SFP? I believe it can function as a generic MIDI controller with its set of knobs, faders & transport buttons.
I can get SFP synths to play notes using it but I'm not sure how to go about controlling other 'sound shaping' knobs & whatnot.

SFP seems to be enjoyed by only a limited number of MOTIF8 users since I wasn't able to find answer to this from MOTIF's user forums.

Help would be greatly appreciated,

Oh, and my MOTIF8 is connected to the computer via USB. Then of course, patched to SFP modules via 'Sequencer MIDI Source 1 Out."

I don't have a Motif, so I can't talk about the Motif side of things. But I can talk about the Scope end of the workflow...

1. Filter active sensing in your sequencer if you can't disable it on the Motif (assuming it even sends it of course). Otherwise you'll experience random lockups.

2. Your motif sliders & knobs (and whatever else that sends midi) should have default midi assignments, hopefully Midi CC's. If not I'm sure you can find a setup someone has made for some use or other that will work fine. Scope devices get control assignments via right clicking on the knob/slider/button u want to assign to your external controller. As long as the incoming value is a midi CC Scope doesn't care what the CC value is. So all you have to do (once midi is routed) is right click on the control that you wish to have assigned, then when the "MIDI Ctrl Assignment" window pops up in Scope just move the knob/slider/button on the motif and you'll see that value appear in the control assignment window in Scope. Click the Midi+ button and the value is assigned.

To complexify things a bit you can have different mappings setup in your motif to assign more controls than you physically have. Ie, ctrl set 1 for mixing, ctrl set 2 for synths etc. Some people prefer dedicated assignments that they learn and always use, myself I tend to always set things up ad-hoc for a current project and use scribble strips on my controllers to mark what things are assigned to. I generally don't need to 'mix' via controllers, just do various things like filter sweeps, crossfade between values etc to keep the mix interesting, so the ad-hoc method works the best for me.

Well, from what I can see in SFP's MIDI monitor, apparently the knobs in my MOTIF8 shares a controller channel with differen bank #'s assigned to each one. And the similar situation is true for faders as well sharing a common cc# with different bank #'s assigned to each fader.
I'm wondering if SFP modules have a way of learning CC info as well as bank # info...sort of a subcatagory I'd assume within each CC.

SONAR 7 seems to recognize & is able to learn each fader & knob seperately by learning CC info as well as bank # from MOTIF8. I would assume there's a way of getting SFP modules to do the same since MIDI is only MIDI.... Afterall, SFP does recognize from its MIDI monitor module that in fact these separate knobs & faders on MOTIF8 does transmit different MIDI info.

Any thoughts anyone?

If you're routing the Motif through Sonar before you hit Scope, you can remap the incoming midi to different CC's based on the bank #. Or you can perhaps change the internal assignments in the Motif itself (which is what I was initially hinting at). If you're connected directly to scope and can't edit the motif (or don't want to) there are some 3rd party tools to remap midi within scope. I don't own wolf's midi tools but they might be up to the task (I'll let someone else who has the tools take it from here...)
