Specific application: convert incoming midi to keypresses

I've got a lot of interesting little midi utilities here. Tools to reroute midi, convert other things to midi (my wacom tablet, the laptop's touchpad, keypresses etc), and there are even some windows command line tools that someone posted up a while ago that can do things like launch a specific application with an incoming midi msg.

What I'd like to find atm is an app that can convert incoming midi msgs to keypresses. Ie, so i can use my midi gear for non music related tasks (or perhaps even in music). As an example, in web design it would be nice to refresh another pc's browser using an on/off foot pedal msg. Or it would be nice to control brush thickness with an expression pedal when working in a 3d paint application (for 'painting' geometry etc).

Haven't had any luck finding anything so I'm curious if anyone knows of something I missed in my online searches...

Would love to know if there's something like this too.

If there isn't, it would probably be really easy to code, and would probably sell very well

Keyboard focus might possibly be an issue but it's probably not an insurmountable problem.

(yes, lots of probablys there... can you tell I'm not a coder)

Seems even the free version of the Bome's app does it (MIDI -> keystroke)

Awesome thanks, problem with search engines these days is that if there's any commercial association with any of your search terms its a pain in the butt to filter out retailers (especially the nasty ones) without filtering out positive hits to what you want as well. Feels like the futurama episode where they go to cyberspace and everything is spam & billboards more every day.

Also, the livelab.dk version is really quite useful if you make a printout of your 'control surface'. I used it for a while but realized I have enough control surfaces, so I use the wmidi version now for its added wacom features (pressure,tilt). They're quite useful as a means of adding expression/controllers.

Ok this works great.

For example when doing web dev, I use the sustain pedal into my JD-800, mapped through midi-ox and routed to the laptop here with IE open on the laptop screen and Firefox on a 2nd monitor. I spend most of my time coding in FF and then just check IE so I leave FF with the focus most of the time. A single foot press refreshes meaning my main machine can always focus on coding and such. Having to move my hand to the laptop's mouse or keyboard to refresh every 5-15 seconds while I work was a real workflow killer, I'd have to look down from the screen every time.
