Is anyone using XP service pack 3? I'm downloading it. Any problems or restrictions?

Ain`t that still a beta?

All I read about it is that most of the things of sp3 have been fixed already with windows updates.

It is in beta and only 1,500 people got to test it but these things have a way of getting on the net. I didn't install it because what I downloaded didn't seem like an official release but just a collection of updates. Some people are reporting increased performance with it.

That`s just the way it goes. Hey - do you really expect, that they are not interested in selling Vista than supporting older systems? ;)

I had one friend who said he would never get a CD player because they made the
sample quality too low and he ended up getting them of course. Another friend told me for 4 years that he would never get an mp3 player and now he has one. I remember a computer repair person telling me many years ago that he couldn't see why anyone would ever need more than 64 megs of RAM.

But would they get a new CD/MP3 player because they saw a new one which looks nicer, adds some features they don't need and also may not work as well as their original ones?

still happily using XP SP1 on my machines ;)

So, Braincell, what are you working on lately? Have you done anything with that 555 chip? :)

The 555 chip is in the closet with my guitar. I'm working on a music podcast of my music now. I had to start over because I didn't have enough focus so I didn't publish the first one. I hope to speed up the process and post a link in the music section when it's done.

The download is officially released It is called (release candidate) which I assume means Beta, by the way this is not on the windows update page so IE and Windows Genuine Advantage is not required. It is 330 megabytes:

Now I have installed it on 3 computers. Two of them seem not to have suffered but one of them will no longer boot except in safe mode. I'll fix that later or if need be install XP again. Fortunately that computer was seldom used. I did need it for printing though. I'll be testing the SP3 for improved performance in the SFP tonight.

I did a lot of music tonight. I have to say that the computer is working better with SP3 like some people reported. Casual users might not notice but I could tell. This is very good for music. Before GPO would get a stuck note more frequently and I would usually have a crash when shutting down my system. Maybe they don't want to publicize how good it is because they want people to buy Vista.

You bet!

Every time I build a system for somebody, I convince explain them why NOT to upgrade to the Vista OS. Few want to upgrade anyway, and most of all, for their kids, but not for real performance issues.

In what concerns my PRO systems, no way... I will stay XP, as said, for a long... long time... I simply don't need anything else, whatsoever, just to concentrate in making music.

I have everything, I mean, "everything" I have dreamed having in terms of music making in my early days, all within my system.

The rest of it is playing tennis with the devil.

I think that once somebody understands marketing strategies and hypnotism in depth, he takes out of his way a whole bunch of lies and future headaches, for having spend money there, where there was NOT a real need!
