Wave files not working

Post by Aviator »

Hi all

I'm new to the forum but have been using Creamware products for about 3 years. This morning I tried playng a music file in media player and no sound came out. I looked in my scope mixer and nothing is showing on the wave imput channel. Everything is wired correctly in Scope (same default project for 3 years) but no sound. Cubase works fine!. Anybody got any ideas where I should start looking.

Thanks
Aviator

well, if you're sure there's no other reason it's not playing like unclocked samplerate or improper settings in the player or a 24 bit file with a 16bit player or a routing window problem or...

you can check this...

Thank for the reply. The article is interesting, I'm not sure if I want to start playing with the registry, although I could make a backup first. Another option is that I have a copy of MS XP that I never installed, Do you think installing MS XP would solve the problem.

stupid question, but did you try other files that formerly worked ?
I recently download a few sound examples which also didn't play ....
a closer inspection revealed those were.... ta,da... fragments of tax balances :o :D
something must have gone very very wrong on the server providing the files :P

occasionally malicious code is distributed by fake media files

On the other hand I've had it once that the first Wave device refused to work from one day to the other. Very strange indeed.
Since I never use more than one stereo pair anyway, I simply added a second Wave device and ignored the first one from then on.

The files that I am playing are known to be good. The computer has stopped playing any sounds (apart from Asio) even the windows clicks when enabled cannot be heard. Even worse I cant hear the sounds in Flight simulator. I tried deleting the extra references from the registry as suggested in the article, but that didn’t help. The problem seems to be in windows and nothing to do with Scope.

How did you add another wave device? I tried going into the routing window and adding another wave source to no avail. Short of spending the rest of the weekend rebuilding the PC I don’t know what to do. A friend suggested reinstalling DirectX would this help and how do I go about it.

nah, it's pretty simple...
just go to the device manager panel in your OS where you will find the Scope Multimedia driver - it's probably set to 2 Wave devices - you can increase the number (up to eight).
You have to restart the system to activate the changes.

if it's that registry thing where Windows 'exhausted' the available driver slots, then I dunno either, as it may perform totally obscure under such circumstances.

good luck, Tom

the registry thing is easy to check, it's unlikely to be the culprit.

if all windows devices have no sound, you might go to control panel/sounds and audio devices/audio and be sure creamware in/out 1 is selected.....

I went into control panel/sounds and found that Creamware Play/Rec 1 selected. I tried Creamware selecting Play/Rec 2 and all came back to life. I reset back to Play/Rec 1 and still nothing, anyway it works on play/rec 2 so that’s good enough. Thanks to 'garyb' and 'astroman' for all your help and valuable time, I was on the verge of a rebuild.

Thanks again

you're welcome, Aviator
that is exactly what happened on my system, too - and it was impossible to get the #1 back into action
and I have no idea about what started it...

No Sound during Record or Playback

Post by mtrotsky »

Hello,

I have a Luna board installed and when recording analog using Triple DAT, I do not get any sound out of the computer speakers. Sound is recording as the VU meter is working and I can play back the WAV files using Windows Media Player. I cannot playback the files using TripleDAT. My default recording device is Creamware 1 and the default audio playback device is the Realtek sound chip in the computer.

Any ideas on how to restore sound through the Luna Card? System is Win XP.

Many Thanks.

if the first doesn't work, then the registry issue is the problem.
