This was a request from my FOH / Monitor / Lightman / Psychiatrist / GoTo Guy
I have automated everthing where a playback audio engineer need only to maintain and observe. However we do not fake the vocals yet, so that chore will soon come after the singers do back to back months of 6 nighters.
My PAE guy is experimenting w/ the DAW and QY700 hardware sequencer for some small rehearsals and wants to change presets on various synths.
I have never used the category list next to the presets, so I thought I would help him out, but I noticed that these are lacking. For example, just a poly synth patch has to be called synth brass as it is the only option other than synth bass which is quite inappropriate.
Is there a way to customise this somehow?
The presets are named per song which I admit is rather generic.
I don't have to have use my SDK disc hopefully. This would take away valuable recording / programming time.

Right now it seems as though I have no other options.
Right Now They Look Like This.
FEEL 4 U INT.
FEEL 4 U VRS.
FEEL 4 U CHR.
FEEL 4 U BRG.
Gigastudio allows it's changes w/ more options, and he only needs synth talk as he says.If he had it his way they would be posted like this.
F/ P-SAW PWM
S/ M-SQR
He is quite knowledgable and is requesting these in the catagories.
1 ) Fast attack....Polyphonic......Saw wave......w/ Pulse Width Modulation
2) Slow attack.....Monophonic......Square wave.
I understand his request, and hope to help him. As he could overwrite the preset name, since the song remains, and re catagorise them.
Simple Me Thinks.
I hope I don't have to bother John Bowen.
Thanks Herr Voigt..........................My Brotha' From Anothet Mother.

Thank You Herr Voigt.
Brotha' Man Borg,
The hardware sequencer will automate everything for the engineer, that is no problem. But he is rehearsing w/ the girls and wishes to try different presets w/o having the cackiling hens looking at their watches, etc.
I must keep the name of the preset in the context of the song, intro verse chorus, and the name as well, i.e. Chaks Khan's Feel 4 U. But he wishes to have the catagories more appropraiately customized. That way they can rehearse w/ the presets I made, and view the catagory and experiment w/ a similar patch that decribes the attack, waveform used, etc.
I understand how he feels. When these girls have 1 second of downtime, they are cackling on their phones, or checking their make up, etc. In other words their focus is lost as he pages through presets. Totally understandable as they can be quite irratating during work rehearsals.
I really have pity on him as Olive made an awesome little talkbalk feature that muted the mains. I thought this would be a benefit, but appears to be a serious drag for a playback audio engineer.
4 Hens all speaking at once, wanting more reverb, less bass, more kick, less of " her " voice, etc., etc. I haven't let anyone but the PAE / FOH know about the talkback ability of the DAS Mixer. I will try to keep this a secret as long as I can.
Hence the need for custom catagories.
Thanks.

I am only a lowly silent partner, in a well designed tax free enviroment.
I now have to meet all of the hens tomorrow and play w/ the presets. I should be present, but cute young singers are one of my weaknesses, so I try to avoid them. Besides, these girls are more of a Spice Girls kinda thing, they don't have half of the talent of the last group of hens. However, the demand for this fake crap is astounding. No one cares as long as they are cute and shake their tailfeathers.
Your Illustrator studio set-up was impressive Hubird. I can't believe how many great rigs are used privately here.
Do you have live productions like these where you live? With all of the sexy dance crap?
Scope is perfect due to it's stability for these kinda gigs. For 26 months I made good coin from the last group. I hope to do even better w/ this one, as the girls are all local and do not wish to travel.
The preset fix was great I thought ...........until I discovered from SpaceF that it couldn't save the editing process.

I had to write the whole list of presets out and their associated waveforms, envelopes, etc. The PAE guy needs to mess around a little, at least he is interested in his work.
I keep track of my presets by putting the song/sound name in the preset name.
I also number them
for ex:
00-Bass Caina Remix
01-Pad Med's best song ever
etc, etc....
I can use numbers to make groups and keep thing ordered.
If i get stuck and want to insert a preset between two other presets, here it would go
00a-some preset i really want to keep
00b-another fantastic one
or i can add an "x" if the preset has to go down the list (x00, z00, etc...)
"00a" like above, opens rooms for another 99 presets or more: "00aa", or "00aaa" are other subgroups that give 99 numbers....
On spacef devices, the default or "Reset" preset is often "00-Default" as it would always show first in the list. or i can type " _00-Default" (goes before "00").
seen ?

easy, unlimited, a bit more easy to navigate (because all your presets are in the same bank).
Some people use space and underscore ( " " and "_" ) as they are even before numbers or letters in the alphanumerical ordering. But they confuse me or take 1 or 2 pixel more than "a" "b".... depends on people.
I don't mind putting long names because most devices (from spacef at least) allow to see the most important part of the name, if not all.
been doing this for years now, it works fine even long after.. i don't use categories for myself (they are very useful for Searching, when someone looks for a kind of sound like "bass" pads or else....). I think it is scope that should know by itself wether the sound is a bass or a pad, and categorize it automatically... (that would be cool, may be in a few years/centuries
