Pulsar 2 balanced analogue input LOW?

I am still trying to find the reason for my noiseproblems when I record analogue. I dont think the S/N ratio is bad on the Pulsar's input anymore, but the input is LOW compared to what it should be? A very hot input seems to amount to -20db or so - way too low! So when I normalize this, you can imagine the noise goes up 10-fold....

I am running balanced outputs from my Mackie mixer to the XLR inputs of Pulsar 2+. Anyone knows what could be wrong?

Another lil thing... sometimes when my ADAT inputs receive no data, I get annoyingly high beeeeeeps on the channels, until the source is up and running?!

your pulsar is +4db(pro) and the mackie board is -20db(consumer).the mackie may be switchable.
