I read on the guardian Web page Of the Death Of The Wolverhampton Ring road Tramp.I must admit I was very Touched.It just goes to show that you don't have to be famous or even talented to be remembered by everybody .

Oh, he'll be remembered - he was a ex SS officer.

Still, it was nice to see folks laying flowers for him.

Having read the Guardian article, I didn't notice any mention of this, so I looked a little further and there it was - the BBC reporting pure hearsay from a fellow pole that this guy was an SS officer (the day after he died). Then there was the wikipedia article, stating the same accusations - again, the day after this old boy kicked the bucket.

Now don't get me wrong here. If he actually was an SS officer then he doesn't deserve to be remembered like some kind of local hero, but at the same time, you've got to wonder why this guy waited until the 'ring road tramp' was dead before selling his story. Seems a bit fishy to me.

Besides, is it not against the law to harbour war criminals?
