Any PlanetZ Gamers ?
I bought Scope4live jr. a nice BC Rich Warlock last year, and hooked him up w/ a local Rock God who comes to the house to teach lessons.
@ 50 USD per week I thought it was a sore dick deal. He suggested I buy Ernie Ball's, sustain compressor pedal ( Celmos soon ), and the Guitar Hero Video game series.
I have been playing this video game and it is way cool. I am immature mentally, this I accept, but I can't stop playing this game !! It is also a great way to bolster a kids ego so they can play the real thing, and the game actually helps with the coordination of eyes, hands, etc.
I just bought the Guitar Hero III for him, it will be released next Monday, so I had to pre pay on ebay and have it overnighted from Canada.
But I wish I had this when I was a kid. What's cool is all of the songs are rock tunes I know the keyboards on, so I play along w/ the synth and B3 w/ my son and jam !!
This is such a great way to hang out with your boy and have fun. Our 40 year age difference means nothing when this thing is on.
Right after we play this for a while I make him woodshed songs I know on Guitar, which are basic but my first was Susie Q. by CCR, so I show him the lick then the rhythm and his ego and confidence are so high from playing the upper levels of the video game, he just jumps right in and starts smokin". Damn I'm proud of him.
Am I really mental are do others do this also?

i guess you can call me a gamer
i just got of work and im on my way to a friends for some serious Nintendo Wii gaming, love the controls!
guess im more of a gamer than musician, as my gaming/video PC is an e6600/nvidia8800gts setup, while my DAW is an athlon XP1800, allthough its close to recieve parts from my FORMER gaming/video pc (XP3000+)...
quite happy with my music setup though, as i "only" use CW stuff. but i could really do with a 15DSP card, but now im totally off topic.
sorry.
bye.

IMHO games are a complete waste of time. We live in a culture that is time constrained. Think about it, how many hours of free time you have in a week: 20-30 and what do you do with it most of the time, doing necessary daily chores. How much time do you have left for your own use? Playing games is not good for your intelect moreso for kids in developmental stages.

I guess I still have to submit to the casual gamer pool, too. I wish I had a kid that would challenge and beat me sooner or later, but I'm on my own and change of that fact is nowhere in sight.
However, as I am more the technical guy and eventual daydreamer than the gifted musician, it's no wonder my preferred genres are racing games (used to be among the global top ten drivers several times in the days of NFSU1) and adventures/fantasy (no WoW'er though).
Hm, yeah, that unbalance of gaming/working rig is more or less present here, too. My studio box is still my old rocksolid P3-S 1.4GHz with the 21dsps and 6 scsi160 drives while the gaming box is a x2-3800 with a 1950xt. But: the music front is eventually backed by my laptop (c2d merom t7200, 2gb ram) which is absolutely no good for gaming (intel onboard gfx). Maybe it's not that unfair after all...

Dude you still use the Tualitin w/ 1MB L2 cache ?
Wow. that's still a great CPU.
Well I'm having a blast jammin' w/ my boy
I will continue to do this.
When I get back to Vegas, I will tweak my DAW's, and bend my keys till I drop everynight.
My boy will meet Eddie Van Halen in December, I wish to keep him motivated, it will help.
Guitar Hero III has tougher tunes and Eddie himself can sign the game DVD and box. Slash, EVH, and other rock " Gods " have their songs mapped out for III.

not to put Bingo's opinion down, I agree that there are certain contexts that games can be a complete waste of time, but there are also contexts where games can give rise to certain more important things. Such as what Jimmy's pointed out.
I've tried the guitar hero series myself... it's a big thing at the office where some of my bosses are really into it. I think the game overall is just so well done. The same gimmick (guitar controller / rock feel) was done in Japan as an arcade machine, just after the Beat Mania series, but never really caught on because they didn't use licensed tracks, or even if they did, didn't license the right tracks. Also, by that time the general "arcade" population was dieing out in Japan, so that might have played a role.
Either way, Guitar Hero is so spot on with the specific demographic it aims at, that it's caught on really well from fans and Pro side as well, with pros wanting to release their tracks on Guitar hero. It's a very interesting development in music games that suggest alternative forms of music distribution, not to mension the way listeners enjoy music.

Games are the future of most entertainment, including music and drama. Rather than simply watching a movie or a play, the audience will be participants.
Games will also serve as ways to remember things; thus adding to our intellect.
Would you say that reading a good fiction book is a waste of time?
In the future, robots will do all the work and people will have free time to play all the time.

no.
polytricks are colloquially called -censored-...
you always try to goad me about the "con", the "konig", the "cain", the "king" game.
as Allan Watt points out, con-man and king-man are synonyms.
you can take the sarcasm and stick it, as they say.
you don't have to agree with me or like me, but please don't condescend(which literally means for the king to stoop down. the jerk thinks he's superior and has to bend down from the heavens to speak to the little commoners who aren't even fit to be in his presense...). we are equals, but i can take a superior attitude if you like.
