Will a Fostex AC2496 AD convertor work with a Pulsar 2 Card

Post by bobmeredith »

Hi, I'm Bob and boy do I need some help!!

I have a Pulsar 2 card with no disks, drivers, or documentation and I'm not sure whether to try and sell it or use it myself.

A brief history:

A very dear friend of mine passed away about 3 years ago. His widow was made an offer for his entire recording studio and because she was devastated
and penniless, agreed to the sale trusting that the Pastor of the church (another old friend) would make arrangements to pay her. The studio was packed up lock stock and barrel and taken to a church in another state, where the ARSEHATS RENEGED ON THE DEAL 6 months later. The gear has been sitting there ever since. About 12 months ago I arranged to have most of the gear brought up to me and I've been selling off items on her behalf ever since.

The studios computer was returned along with software which I have finally had a chance to start sorting through. A lot of disks seem to be missing and when I fire it up I get a lot of error messages.

I really need to install the sound card from scratch and see if I can get it running before I sell or decide to keep it. I've seen the Pulsar system running in his studio but it seemed too complex and hard to set up for my home studio needs.

Too make matter worse it seems that the A-16 ultra convertor has "gone missing"

Would the Fostex card work?

Cheers

Hi, All the details you need can be found here :

http://www.creamware.com/index.php?subm ... rt&lang=en

You'll need to download the drivers from the ftp site and register the hardware numbers of the cards and get the activation keys, otherwise the Scope platform won't work. The fostex most definitely will work adding 8 inputs and outputs to the ADAT on th cards.I have a Presonus digimax fs virtually the same thing.

Oh,
And Of Course WELCOME

welcome Bob,

sorry to read this sad story, but then your other 'problems' are rather easy to solve.
It only looks obscure when you don't know about the specific licensing method regarding the card and it's software.

(you won't need this, it's just for explanation) It works this way:
the card has a hardware id - all (Scope/Pulsar etc) software is registered to that specific id in a 2 step process.
Initially the system generates a code ('request string') which is sent to the manufacturer (now Sonic Core in Germany), who in turn generates the proper licensing code which is sent back to the owner of the card by email.

since these codes are filed at the company, they can look up the ones belonging to your card and and return you the respective keyfile ('allkeys.skf')
the guy handling this at Sonic Core is Ralf, a very gentle and knowledgeable person.
Write an email to rb -at- soniccore.de, explaining your case and include the number that's on the label on the card's backside.

you may not need this, if the computer still contains the Scope directories from the previous installation.
do a file search for 'scope.rgy' (the keyfile the scope system uses)
or to 'allkeys.skf' (that's what was sent originally)
If you find any of these, open them with a text editor and chaeck that they are not empty.
If you find a pile of numbers and codes, then make a copy of these files and store them in a safe place.
They are all that's needed to get the system up and running.
Any other software can be downloaded via the internet.

cheers, Tom

Thanks Guys, really appreciated.

With the help of a nice guy a the HC Craig Anderton forum I was able to locate the Scope and allkeys files and back them up. It looks as though he was running scope 3.1. (I really wish I had paid more attention when he showed me his new system).

The Fostex convertor belongs to a Fostex recording system that I also have to sell for his widow so it's really not a long term solution.

The system is too complex for me, I work 2 jobs and don't have time for study/experimentation. I also can't afford to pay her what the systems worth so I'd like to try and sell it for her.

Do you guys think it would be saleable and if so what would it be worth minus convertors?

Thanks for your help, I'm really out of my depth with this system.

Cheers
