This is my last writing to you Braincell:

Very unfortunate for you, that you have not read those sincere and absolutely positive worlds for your life, with such realistic forecast of what is going to happen with you, if you don’t listen to anybody and keep believing yourselves to be the greatest human being of all times! I am in shock about your stubbornness and EXTREME superficiality!!!

You have lost an opportunity, from now and on, things will get inversed for you, regrettably.

Don’t bother writing me, as I have finally decided, reading your last empty and deceptive post, not to read, or write you anymore. I refuse to deal with such an inconsistent human being, depressing myself with those unlawful, discouraging feelings you spread. After the effort of writing you such a long post, you have absolutely defrauded me as a human being, truly, I am so sorry, it is so sad…

Now there's a trio to see live.

I saw them at Coconut Grove, just North of Miami when I was 18 years old. I was also influenced by Joe Pass, and Oscar. They didn't need a bassist when Joe P. played the guitar. Hell, his curled left thumb did walking bass lines.

This thread went in different directions, and opinions. It's all good. But I was so sad, and now talking about such artists in the R.I.P. Josef Zawinul thread, is turning this into a more reminiscing, and enjoyment of a few masters, that all lovers of this free style of music should appreciate.

I too of course, had gone through the amazing music of Joe Pass, and all the guitarists I’ve played with admired him much.

There is a guitarist in France, in Paris, but I don’t longer remember his name, he has emulated the Pass playing exactly, and plays with the same instruments he did, curiously he is even similar to Joe, those coincidences you know… it looks like a reincarnation that man…

He sat on a bar stool, and even would put his cigarette above the top frets under the strings. Original in every way.

And if we consider the time in which he created such musical phrases when improvising, well… that’s a revolution. Now, you listen to it and the harmony used is what we could call “classic jazz harmony”, but for those times it was a revolution.

In my town, long years ago, there was a big group of musicians called “the musicians of the centre”, which studied deeply and seriously all the music of Weather Report, they were a group of about 20. I joined some of them and participated in the study of Weather Report. It is kind of a school for us. The drummer would pay close attention to everything the drummer would do, would find written parts, and would put in contact with close people to the great Peter Earskine, and each of us would do something similar, then would form groups around to play their music, analyzing it, etc., it was crazy.

I still wonder how Zawinul got the idea of laying out a backwards keyboard.
Look at a video of "Black Market". The lower the note on the keyboard the higher the pitch. Why would anybody go to that trouble? Just wondering...

Jaco is a Finnish name and should be pronounced as "yahko" yet I never heard anyone say it correctly. This man was hated by many people when he died. I expect Nestor would have felt the same as he seems intolerant.

It's said that once he had a keyboard repaired wrong that came back with reverse scaling, while checking it he came out with the Black Market theme.....for what I know he only plays that song that way.

I should have said "played"...I'm not used yet!

that's quite clear, also and even to me

loss of conventions and patterns leads to new ways of music making...like better listening to what you hear actually for example...what else Paul?

It's like the trick of retuning your guitar to find new inspiring patterns and moves

Emerson would play live backwards, it freaked us kids out.

But the sounds he got out of stabbing his B3 were really remarkable.

He would take it and throw it around, stab it with a knife etc. etc.

He is still one of my idols also.

Seriously now, what makes you say this music is 'not stuck in the past' or 'forward looking' ??

To me it sounds like 90s goth stuff, utterly derivative, not challenging in the least, I couldn't even begin to compare stuff like this to her father. It's feckless angsty rubbish designed to appeal to students.

And why does she feel the need to pose in her underwear? Perhaps the music isn't enough...

By the way, Jaco is a hero of mine, the way he died is incredibly sad. As a bassist he's maybe not my favourite, but his originality is virtually unparalleled.

Actually Wayne Shorter was tired of seeing his reflection On Josef's skull, and Jaco complained of being blinded by lights to the point of where he couldn't see Zawinul's fingers, hence the Carribean Cooler.

I don't think there was a need to denigrate her music that way and I don't think your hero Jaco would appreciate that comment very much. You are such a hypocrite to be calling people trolls when you are doing the exact same thing. Despite what you think, you are not a nice person.

Unlike you, sir , I actually gave a coherent reason for not liking her music. When you are ready to form a coherent discussion let me know. Personally I think Jaco would be shocked by her musical taste, it's so commercial... stuff like this is a wet dream for record execs, slick angst goth-pop.. it's very profitable.

I like the Mary Pastorius stuff a lot, nothing bad to say on the underwear too

but if I should say my opinion on what music is looking forward and what music is looking back....Weather Report have put out some stuff that no one had ever heard year after year, they were far ahead of their times on many aspects, from the world music aspect to the use of electronics, making many different things that sounded new and unique each time, those Mary's tracks are nice but there isn't anything that couldn't be heard ten years ago....this has nothing to do with what someone could like better, tastes are fortunately different....If I should say something that sounds innovative of these days I could mention Fennesz (already copied a lot). He's not for everyone though....
