Hello
I own a hardware synth which suffers from two big problems
1) The output is too low
2) The outputs are extremely noisy
I am expecting an OS update which should take care of the problem - in the meantime, I was looking for a combination of Pulsar standard (effects that would reduce the noise and bump up the level... however, everything I have tried so far make either problem worse. A compressor would take care of the level, but the noise would become extremely high - A gate did take care of the noise when the synth is not making sound bu with no effect on the level. Connecting them in a series makes the sound dissapear or extremely low.
I am very new to studio technology - everything I know it's been learn by trial and error... but this one, I haven't hit the solution... Is there a kind soul out there with the answer?
Thnx in advance

Effect Chain to solve a problem?
for the level you have a lot of amplifiers on scope!
where does the noise come from?
what sort of noise?
most its the poti outputvolume (dust and rust)
you can reduce noise from old poti when turning around for a while at highest possible level
the longer you do spezialy on the values it crackles most - the better
in the old days i turned on the desk one hour before soundcheck starts playing with the faders!
better would be to change the poti if its the probl.
-----------
could be the connectors
clean with pur alcohol!
again the babarian way plugin/plugout/plugin- turn a bit when pluged in if it doesnt help (->change them)
-----------
you can open synth and have a look at the circuit contacts and condensers;
up to your technical knowledge replace parts
--------------
if all mechanical doesnt help
you can try to record noise without sound with sampleplayer sts3000;
do a loop (without a click!)
playback the looped noise invert the signal and feed back to original
you may insert a sampledelay to finetune;
if the synth is stereo and you have possibility to put out sound just on one channel without reducing volume on other;
(= left channel sound ; right channel noise)
simply invert noise to sound;
may i ask what synth it is you love so much to do all this?
btw its more a probl. than a general scope discus.

no good solution here. if it's a ground loop problem you could try something like this:
http://www.hosatech.com/hosa/products/hem-331.html
you can also try to plug your synth into the same ac power as the rest of your gear(pc and monitor amp(s)).
the low output thing combined with noise makes me think that the audio outs on your synth are damaged. have you tried another cable?
maybe you can mangle the sound to make the noise pleasant. you could use a lo pass filter(hi cut), phaser, distortion, more noise(like from downsampling) or other sonic torture...

Thnx for your replies!
1.- The synth is a RedSound Elevata, going into Behringer Mixer (802A)
2.- I am using the mono summing out (Left, main - it has three other output pairs)
3.- I have the send output of the mixer going into Pulsar Analog in (so I can control what goes into the pulsar independently of the mix)
4.- Returns are NOT connected - to avoid loops.
5.- The noise is a hiss noise, kind of a ground loop, however, it should not be - only the Elevata generates it - turn off the Elevata and my Micron my Poly-800 are silent.
6.- According to the Elevata forum, the OS update fixes it - according to RedSound, the updates boosts the signal level by 6dB, which I think it should also improve the S/N ratio... In addition they may have fixed something else in the code to get rid of the noise - maybe a loop...
7.- But I wanted to try something else in the meantime - it's driving me crazy... So I wanted to try some Scope Plugins, see if they helped - with no success... Thinking I don't know enough, I decided to ask the question...
8.- BTW I have Pulsar I + Pulsar II S+S package +Studio 2
9.- So to shorten the question, will my Scope plugins help me? If so How? - Or maybe I should just wait for the OS update...
Thnx for your help

Hi there, if you haven't already, you should try MOVEQ + MOVamily by MCCY. It's a very capable set of what you'd call semi or pseudo modular dynamic EQs with a set of specs that should definately be able to help to a certain extent with your problem. There's lots of gain available in there as well. Here's a link to the device thread for MOVEQ here on PlanetZ >>> http://www.planetz.com/phpBB2/viewtopic ... 37&start=0
