Nearfields w/o a sub are a tuff way to get a good mix. Scope's I/O's are very powerful. I had to get a sub for my live rig just to keep my Barbettas from rattling. I listen through my buddy's Adam Audio 7's and Sub 10. They sound really good w/o the sub, but with the sub the audio 7's sound even better as they concentrate on higher frequencies which they are actually designed for.
Thanks.
I agree that with the sub everything will sound better.
If i decide to go sub-way do you know if i have to buy the genelec 7050 or will any sub do the job?

well, we sort of found the problem :)

its not totally isolated though; my first thought is that its no use having decent monitors if your room acoustics is shit :)

most studio-grade monitors should make your music "acceptable" -sounding, even without a sub. however, theres no use in having decent monitors without proper acoustics. you wouldnt happen to have a big frigging blanket lying in a corner, would you? simple test; carry the monitors to another room (in example the hallway outside where they are now) and try it there; notice any difference?

I don't believe acoustics is the issue here because the problem is not some static wave or so but the noise from the inside of the monitors.

I 'm starting to believe that something 's wrong with my monitors. I will call the store that sold them to me and will try to find a way to fix the problem before i decide to buy a sub.

small test:

load a Scope synth with a bass preset tha brings you problems. route a signal from that synth to a recorder say wavelab, soundforge or audacity. skip mixer, adjust level in recording app. record wave.

does the signal look ok?

does the signal sound ok on other systems?

I believe. :D

A miracle must have happened. Suddenly the problem doesn't exist. This distortion has been minimized. I think it is normal for a 5inch monitor to play low frequencies with a little distortion when it is almost at it's peak. I really didn't do anything at all.
Just believed :D

Anyway i don't care what happened. I'm going for sleep happy.
Thank you all.
Panagiotis.

I believe it's the monitors problem because with my AKG headphones i hear everything clear.
I played the same vst with the other studio's genelec and it works fine. The problem is with my genelec. Could they be problematic?
I can't say anything precise about your speakers, but connecting speakers to the audiocards directly without some volume/mute control in between is a bad idea. everytime you exit scope and, worst, everytime you shut the PC on or off you send a nasty burst to the speakers, remember that if you have the volume regulated from a scope fader when scope is off there is no reduction and every noise will be reproduced at full volume...they won't love it.

Sorry for not mentioning but i have my speakers connected to sm pro audio mpatch2. I try to be careful and close my speakers before shutting down my pc. Is there an impedance or any other issue that would be solved connecting the speakers to a console?

I know but they didn't seem to help. I believe that it was a matter of software or driver.
