timestretch

Post by cream »

Is there a plugin for sfp that does proper timestretching/pitchshifting?
Like for example soundshifter from Waves?

Stretching algos are often specialized, for different sounds you need different ones...this is what you may expect from a specialized plugin. STS does one thing very very well in the stretching domain: vocal stuff. If you also tweak the formant a bit you may have incredible results. I had a long note recorded from a female singer, very nice, long and with some very good vibrato fading in after 2 secs. Well, I loaded it in 2 instances in the sts 5000 (memory use is like 1 instance), one taking care of a full female range and the other one, after tweaking the formant, taking the range of a full male range. I must say that I never heard anything so good. It's not for everything though.

I think that the STS5k is fantastic at least for another task: to change a bassline on the fly. It's really incredible the tutorial they writed in the manual: the one that explains the robot mode. In that example you take a bass loop and you can change the pitch of the single notes in realtime keeping the time and preserving the harmonic content!

Stupid question,
What host software are you using? I have to admit that nothing in the
creamware arsenal (that I've seen) mearsures up. I would HIGHLY recommend you check out Melodyne. UN FREAKING BELIEVABLE what this baby can do in regards to pitchshift, time correct, and audio manipulation.

I've used a Melodyne demo once but it just didn't work for me.
I also had the Roland Varios which was great in the beginning but the
algorithms where not that great. Especially if you sample from vinyl a lot. The clicks and pops turned into weird aqua sounds if you pitched them. I sold it eventualy.
Waves Soundshifter is way better. It's fast and easy to operate and works also in realtime.
One thing that bothers me is that I must use Kontakt to use it. ( I do everything with midi) ( anyone wants to buy Kontakt 2 btw? :)
I was hoping for a cool sfp device that does the same (or better) so I can use it within my sfp environment.

im sure you could achieve a timestrecthing effect With The Flexor 3 granular modules somehow. dont ask me how cause im not too advanced with modular synthesis...yet . but there are alot of pros here who are
