ADAT with Yamaha RS7000

Post by BingoTheClowno »

Just got the AIEB2 expansion for Yamaha RS7000 and I tried to connect the optical outputs to my Scope. Doesn't work. Are these two compatible?
Am I missing something? Tried both Master and Slave. Are the cheapo chinese optical cables the culprit?

they could be.

you tried master and slave where? what was each device? is that adat out on the yamaha or optical sp/dif? and what about in scope?

adat is adat. the device shouldn't matter. when there is signal coming IN to scope on an adat connector, there is a red led that lights up in the samplerate window in scope next to the adat selection for where scope is to look for the source of the clock to sync to. which led is lit up? i've seen adat a and adat b mixed up many, many times.....

naturally, the cable connected to scope that has a red light coming out goes to the adat input on the yamaha, and the cable with no red light connects to the yamaha's outputs(and vice versa).

i figure you already know the info, but i thought i'd just check the basics to help you suss it.

AEIB2 has both optical and digital inputs and outputs.
The LED is ON on the output out of the Yamaha and OFF on the input, similarly on the Pulsar2 card.

Optical cables are connected on the connectors close to the motherboard which should be ADAT A. But just in case, I tried the other one too.

(in this image Adata A is not close to the PCI connector)

In the sample rate window I tried ADAT A and B with both modules in the project and connected to the mixer (I'm using the dynamic mixer, do I need to use a different one?).
The Connect LED turns on only when I choose optical SPDIF however still no sound. Also, if I partialy unplug the out optical cable I get noise in Scope. Unplugging the cables from Pulsar while Yamaha is on throws a bunch of errors in Scope like a message saying not to mess with copyright (??).
That's pretty much all I have for now.

you need the S/PDIF modules instead of Adat in the project and have to set the respective Adat port in the Sample Rate Window to S/PDIF.
I'd assume the Yamaha is set to master as default, so you have to slave to it's port - you probably already did this, just without S/PDIF in the project ;)

cheers, Tom

yeah, that looks like optical sp/dif, not adat.

it doesn't matter what mixer you use....

That was it :)
I did indeed use the ADAT module as it was the most reasonable choice at that time.
Works fine now, and the Yamaha is the Slave for future references.

Thank you Astroman and Gary.

I take the statement "Yamaha is the Slave" back :D
After listening carefully (longer time) I noticed clicks and pops. I switched to Slave and it works now without clicks and pops. Ooops!
