I'm planning to add analog inputs/outputs to my Pulsar. Any words on which devices are available and the experience with them?

Huh? Waddaya taking about? Are you talking about the physical connections on the card? Doesn't your board have any physical I/O connectors? You must be referring to something else. Please explain.

Or maybe you are referring to the A16 or something like that (sorry, it's too early in the morning for me )?

If you are looking for an external AD/DA convertor get the A16 Ultra. It's great!

Yah, meant something like the A16. I was wondering about alternatives.

take care: the A16 is designed for 'professional' usage: it preferable uses 'balanced' I/O.
If you're running a typical homestudio with unbalanced synth- and mixer in/outputs it's probably safer and less expensive to buy the CW Luna 24/96 convertor boxes, I'm using two of them.
They have simple but 'golded' S/PDif (cinch) in/outs, and the units have nice overload leds in 3 colors.
As I red in the CW forum the A16 can cause signalnoise, and there is a noiseproblem caused by the noisy fan!
A even more cheaper solution that works very well are the convertor boxes of Fostex (don't know the name, see f.i. website of MusicStore Koeln), priced as about 350,- €, but than you don't have overload leds.
Good luck!

Good luck

I know 2 alternatives to the A16 and to the LunaBox, one is the Fostex VC-8, a very cheap converter that as far I know has rca inputs and no meters/leds. Anyway it's damn cheap, you can easily find a second hand vc8 at about 200 €.

See the specs here at the bottom of the page

Another cheap alternative is the Alesis AI3, 1 rack unit and has 1/4" balanced jack i/o.

Here's the link

If you check around anyway It's not difficult to find a second hand A16 (not the Ultra) at about 400-500 €.

Hope this helped

The new A16 doesn't use fans and is very quiet. It uses an external PS so it runs cool.

I also had the 2496's and I agree, they sound great and might be a better solution if cost is an issue and I/O's are a concern. However, the A16 supports unbalanced I/O's as long as you wire your connectors correctly.

right hand top corner, look for 'search', use it extensively...

might be handy

(don't misunderstand me, lots of friendly, helpful people here with tons of knowledge, which you can find when... yeah, you know now)

btw, i have a A8 which does the job just fine, although A16 would be a better (more expensive) choice (if you use external fx and a few synths, it kinda gets crowdy in the back. an additional patch bay might be a cheaper option, but it's just not the same.)

i have a coupla frontier converters which work fine.you could also use a digital mixer with adat i/o or even a non functioning(or functioning) adat could be used for it's front end.the luna box or the a16 would be my suggestion.

there are two types of digital mixers by Fostex with affordable prices, the VM88 and the VM200, both with Adat connections.
Both will work as a converter but at least the VM88 can't do Adat mixdown. The Faders only work on analog playback.
The VM200 might be able to do the job. For $500 secondhand and motor faders it's worth checking.
