Dynatube settings not saved with project

Post by petehalo »

Now that I finally after a few moths found some spare time to fool around with my scope system I discovered that if I change the settings of a dynatube plugin and save the project the next time I open this project the settings of Dynatube plugins are back to default values. All of the other plugins in this same project remember their settings but the dynatube plugins doesn't.

Any ideas what might be wrong here?

did you save your new settings to a preset and save the preset list to your disk?
(I always use the right preset list for that).
saving in scope is different (some say 'a bit clumsy') from f.e. Cubase :-)

Yes I've tried saving it as a preset first and without saving the preset before saving the project but the end result is every time the same, dynatube is back to default settings after opening the project.

it's true. it's a small deal, but a bad surprise. unless you save a preset which you recall after loading the project, you'll have to manually reset the dynatube controls every time you open the project, no real big problem.

I don't understand why that would happen. In the SDK, to allow parameters to be saved in a preset they're automatically set to save in the project by default. Why would they turn that off????

I hope SonicCore's programmers are more reliable than CWA's used to be. :)

possibly because they were 'Absolute Beginners' ;)
afaik Dynatube was implemented by some Swedish company not exactly familiar with Scope

Ah yes, you're talking about one of the rows of checkboxes in the 'parameter' list window. Good point !

In theory, yes it should be a quick fix. On the other hand, if it was disabled on purpose because of insert slot behaviour, then it would need a bit more work to fix. Additionally, only someone at SC or someone authorized by SC to use the 'open' sdk project could fix it.

This seems to be directly related to Dynatubes .mdl structure.
If you rename the components (in Application folder) to .dev form, they save correctly, but they do not process. No sound.

i have the same problem in both guitar and bass version.
i contacted soniccore several time to explain the problem:

Date: Tue, 18 Mar 2008 18:49:36 +0100

Hello,
i write you just to inform about a bug in dynatube (both guitar and bass) regarding preset management:
when you use dynatube in a project, set up the sound, save the SFP project, close and reload it, the dynatbue settings are forgotten.
loading dynatube in the SDK, i discovered that this is caused by the fact that dynatube has not in the "parameters list" the preset
settings, so it doesnt save/recall the last user configuration...
i'm sure i'm not the first one who notice this but please, fix this
for SFP version 5 because it is really annoying!!

the reply was:
thanks - i will forward your email to the developers.

let's hope that it's fixed in 5.0

There's another thing that bothers me with Dynatube. In the Dynatube manual http://www.sonic-core.net/documents/dynatube-guitar.pdf it says that it's possible to control all the knobs via MIDI but I haven't been able to figure out how to do this. Is it possible or is this just another bug in Dynatube?

The manual is a bit vague i have to say. It also mentions being able to use the bass cabs with the guitar heads and vice-versa - but i can't figure out how. Might be time to collate all the problems with dynatube and send an email off.

Hi

It's been a while now but I configured my Kenton Control Freak to control my Dynatube plugs via midi - if I recall the only controls I couldn't get to work were a couple on the VOX emulation - I think midi for these is broken on the plugs.

Pretty sure I just set the Kenton to a range of CC's, right clicked the Dyna control and turned the controller? I then saved the settings and all worked fine.

Dynatube has no MIDI i/o so maybe it will work to "MIDI-fy" it in SDK like in wolfs SDK tips?

i have build a midified dynatube version for myself, with the CC i usually use for it.
i usually have no problem in midi control, but the problem arise when you change amp model: if you remote control the VOX; for example, and then switch to Fender, then the knobs are not moving, even if the automation seems to continue to work.

in bass dynatube i have noticed that the "distance" knob acts in a strange way. sometime i have to restore its correct position after having recalled the setting from a preset.

one time it also happenede that the frequency band didnt work (always in the bass dynatube).

it is indeed a very buggy plugin, but i think it has a really GREAT sound. and it sounds even better if you choose a right preamp or di box.
at the beginning i used it with a presonus tube pre. now i'm using a sm proaudio tb202 and it's much better. i bet that with a high end preamp it would be unbeatable!

I you load Dynatube as a VST you will see it has a lot of parameters. Bass for one model is not the same for the other model, etc.
