My 1U Rackmount Drawer

Post by dawman »

I loved the idea of a drawer that would be accessible during a gig in a convenient location if I needed to load something or God forbid have a freeze or BSOD, this has never happened onstage once since performing w/ GigaScope DAW's for 22 months now. However, GaryB and I discovered folders within folders and many unexplainable fuck ups. I thought maybe too many Jaegers or something, but honestly I don't drink that much. But do find life w/o frozen Jaegers to be unbearable.

We came to the realization that the worthless glidepoint, which had very accurate control at times was not unlatching at times, hence the problems.

I still love the 1U drawer which is never needed at the gig, but when creative times are at hand, I have it open the whole time. I want to keep my drawer but need a new pointing device, and prefer a miniature trackball w/ 2 x buttons.

Does anyone have experience w/ these, or know of a high quality device which needs to be fairly small if possible.

I had a Contour Shuttle Pro II USB, but gave it to GaryB as it had way too many features and was quite large.

BTW GaryB, do you ever use it?

Thanks In Advance,

Problem solved !!
Have to go to England to get this, but it is perfect for what I need.

It has the perfect dimensions16 " x 7.25" x 1". It has a built in 4 port KVM switcher, and LOL, a backlit keyboard w/ a trackball. It's cost is 325 USD
but it has exactly what I need. It fits in my 1U perfectly. Shroomz and Sharc must have made this.

I like my Shuttle Pro. I have a TASCAM console but it's too far away and I end up using the Shuttle all the time for navigating a sequence. In a home studio though – I've only played live once in the last 10 years. I even have the buttons programmed.

I've seen pics of those rackmount keyboards for server rooms. I guess it's hard to find anything in a computer store that DOESN'T have blue LEDs all over the place. It's like translucent plastic in the iMac days, everything was packaged in a see-through pink box in 1998. You know, back when Scope was updated. ;)

I'm hearing ya, I'm starting to get soooo over the whole blue led thang. Although I am guilty too. A long while back (5 years)I changed one of my Lian-li cases to have a blue power LED and white drive LED. Still looks kinda cool. :)
