sad story indeed.
If all the mony invested in the struggle against 'terrorism' would've been put in better and integrated security/policework etc., the average citizen had been better of.
Why is the video useless? because of image quality? too dark?
Too bad anyway.
keep it up Ken :-)

Good that you seem to have coped with it all so well Ken :-)

As regards security cameras... it reminds me of the time I rang the police (in Sydney) to report a mugging in progress I could see in the park from my apartment window. The police just said: "Oh, OK, we'll take a look on the camera."

Great. Not much use to the person getting mugged.

yeah, my friend who saw, and I think has a copy of the video right now says it's too poor quality to make out faces and any noticable features of the assailants. It seems like that's 100% the case with security cameras. Heh, but I'm excited to see the show since I can't remember much of it. Friend says I ran after the people and I have no memory what so ever about running after anything. lol. Hard blow to the head and too much adrenaline? They say people do some pretty crazy things just out of survival instinct..

But before I get carried away, thanks to everyone here for all the support and kind words. It's strange, like I've been saying, I don't feel bad about the whole incident, but I do feel vulnerable at the moment, and people power really helps. I guess music heals, but musicians heal too eh? hehe.

This would not have happened in Japan. Japan is sane and peaceful. I think it helps also not to have legal guns. Oh by the way Kensuguru. Did you know that the Japanese are denied their "natural right to own a gun"? This according to Gary. I assume that any "natural right" would apply to anyone in any country.

If I had the chance to freely go anyway I would chose to live in and enjoy music creation, playing with other musicians and get a cool perspective of social live, I would definitely go to Canada. Probably Toronto or Quebec.

you can get mugged in Japan, or anywhere else. NYC has areas the size of many other cities that are completely devastated, like a war happened there, and people who live there have one main way to make a living, robbery, so NYC is a little more likely to show you it's bad side. there are people who live deep in the subway tunnels, like rats, there are people who have never seen trhe world beyond a 3 block radius, you can bet they'll be crazy.. also, with so many people, the odds go up. you have to keep your eyes open. predators look for the weak and unaware....

please don't be a Biyatch braincell. he was slugged, not shot.

well, it's not QUITE that bad, but I hear that's the way things used to be. There are still areas that are quite messed up. It's just so strange, such an influencial city can't even solve some of the most basic problems. You can get mugged anywhere in the world, but you just get mugged very often in this very specific part of the world. It sucks, but that's just reality I guess. It's also sad that the norm here, and apparently in many other areas of this world, is that "you just have to be careful". Because there are also many other places in the world where you have the luxury of worrying about other things.

the very next day you posted this, someone from a local shop told me almost the same story, taking place in the 'upper' part of a regular German town, 4 am in the morning while he was waiting for a taxi, at an absolutely 'unsuspective' location - no gun thread involved, though - but a full knockout.

as unpleasant as it is, I wouldn't be worried about a case like this - it has happened and it will always happen.
what would concern me are those 'ultraviolent' (as it was called in a movie once...) dudes, who beat you up and kick your face just for fun - increasing numbers are reported...
glad you drew the other straw :)

cheers, Tom

Well, that happened on the Hans-Albers-Platz in Hamburg to my band and me already ten years ago.
We were coming out of a 10hrs gig in the morning (yes, we did play over 10hrs with just two short breaks, my longest and greatest gig at all) .. really drunken .. took our bikes .. some guys said "hey, that are our bikes" and we were knocked down within a milisecond .. our drummer was put in a waste container incl. his bike .. and I heard all doors around the place slamming while beeing closed.
Actually this was a quite a funny experience, mainly because the gig was that great, that nothing in the world could harm us .. and it opened my eyes about what can be expected from the surrounding folks. Good luck there were no weapons involved ..
