Can you recommend a database creator?

Just reinstalling and copying VST files across from my PCs and I have realised how many great plugins I have actually got that I have just not touched. The main reason being that, with so many of them, I don't know which plugins would be most suitable for a particular purpose. I do have subfolders setup in my VST plugins folder - such as Delay, Filter, Reverb, Distortion etc. but a lot of plugins cover more than one catogory. Say, for instance, I wanted a delay which had multitapping, filters and morphing - how could I search my plugins for such a plugin?

What I would like to do is create a database where I could create entries by adding a VST plugin name and then assign keywords to it - such as "multitapping", "filters" and "morphing". I could then do a search on any number of keywords and find plugins that had these keywords assigned to them.

Can anyone recommend an easy to use, simple as possible, cheap as possible database creator that I could do such a thing with?

1. you have too many VST's!
2. in XP, you can assign keywords to DLL files - right click - Properties - Summary, then type whatever keywords you want
3. right click on the VST folder and select Search
4. type your keyword search in A word or phrase in the file and click search

this may be enough to help to keep track of the too many VST's you have

just put a copy of every multi-functional plug in all appropriate folders...
if that doesn't help, you indeed have much too much plugs available, as Husker already said

You can never have enough plugins!

I thought about the keywords option but I have the plugins on 3 separate PCs, so this would be 3 times the amount of work! Might be an option though. The idea of copying the .dll files to all appropriate folders wouldn't really work for a number of reasons - Cubase wouldn't allow the same name .dll files (I could rename most but that would take too long) plus it would cause other problems.

Guess I will have to find another way to search for plugins amongst the 71,980 files in my VST plugins folder.

Markus, please take into account a good 980 of these files are not .dll files.

that leaves you 71000, which is... an incredible amount, still. I don't doubt you have problems to handle that...

I think you can trade in 10,000 plugins for 1 "insta-hit" button. So you'd have 7 insta-hits. And maybe you can trade in 3 insta-hits for 1 insta-classic. And you'll have 2 insta-classics with 1 insta-hit left over. Not a bad deal.
