soylent.green and wittgenstein

Post by soylent.green »

Hello everybody,

Here's a track I've started around some samples I recorded accidentialy when I had been checking out my usb tv adapter. listening to them I figured they are pretty cool. the quality of the recording was somehow miserable, but it has some charme I think. I like it trashy...
Don't expect too much of the track. It's just a two hour work, rather minimalistic and from a musical point of view primitive. Nevertheless I like it ;-)

On one of the samples the voice says quoting the philosopher wittgenstein (original is in german, hope my translation makes sence):
"What's right or wrong is decided upon by the society applying rules commonly accepted. If you change the rules, you'll change society..."

I dedicate this song to wolfgang schäuble (german minister of internal affairs) who currently tries to change the rules!

Here's the URL to the track:

Have fun. I'm looking forward to getting plenty of feedback from you guys.

frankly well put together, really good job :-)
if you have a Psy-Q it could do a good job in the low mids, if mixing is involved.
a kick lacks almost completely, is that intentional?
no need to throw in a classic 909 kick, a more pronounced (elektro) kick would give the anyway slow tempo some drive/groove :-)
(f.e. on beat 1, 1 4/4, 2, 2 3/4 and 3, and variations ?).
edit, good synth bass indeed :-)
you could give it a bigger sound in the mix, with an ER reverb, or more chorus stuff, PW, eq-ing or attack design, just what fits best.
If put more dramaticly in the mix, you'll get a nice contrast with an eventual hammering elek kick as suggested above :-)
The voice and the melodical parts will get through the mix anyway, because of their frequencies.

guys, thanks for the feedback.
while writing this reply I upload a "brushed up" version (same link like original post) with a more prominent kick and some sort of cheap intro.

For now I go with the boring rhythm without almost any variation. I personally like it...maybe someone volunteers for a jungle remix? no? ;-) But I'll keep it in mind.

I Like it. You should do an album of these sorts of tracks. As soon as I heard it, I thought "Hmmm, familiar".
It reminded me of your Intensiv track (which is much better and polished) and I love that track, I really do.
You should continue this one up to the standard of Intensiv and I'll buy your album

without almost any variation
I think that is the trick. I find myself sometimes starting with some good stuff and then "overdo" it with too much and too fast variations...

keep it simple.... :D

Neil - You still remember "intensiv kreativ" ?!?! Wow, crazy! I feel honored!
BTW: It's here for a download http://www.konglomer.at/Topics/musik/In ... reativ.mp3

hifiboom - My favour for simplicity, I think that comes from my musical background. It was maybe my early love to "kraftwerk". They are really awesome. Still a pleasure to listen to their tracks nowadays...

And with the overdoing:
It's the same with me. After listening again and again to a track I get bored of it. Then I tend to think: "It needs variations". It starts with putting here a bit percussion, there a bit other stuff and after a while it ends in a complete mess ;-)

yeah exactly ... same here...

After some days I tend to think about some tracks, "why the hell did I made a melodie into this" or "I should have let the beat go for at least 1 minute without variation".
