sampling on the fly
Anyone have a suggestion for a VSTi that samples stuff on the fly? Doesn't have to be synced to the host's clock. I just need to press record, and have the sound go straight into a key. I'm wondering if there's an easier way to do this than me recording the sound and loading the wav file back into kotakt.
Emu-X and a few other standalone solutions are the only ones that do this afaik.
DiscoDSP Highlife also does 'sampling' in this sense, but I think it's only for sampling other VSTi's? You might check it out though, I think it's free.

it's imho no vsti, but may be samplerobot something to consider, though?
it does at least export to kontakt.

ya, Michu, you read me right. It's not so much for "live" performance, just for captureing ideas and transfering them quickly to triggerable patches.. recently I find myself coming up with ideas, breaking it down into bits and pieces of phrases, and then wanting to sample all the phrases to put the idea back together again. And by the time I actually recorded all the phrases, I loose track of the big picture since it's already been hours if not days since the initial conception of the idea..
I'm using Roland SP 404 for live performance.
My laptop makes noises, SP 404 sample the phrases and mantains all in loop.
With 4 banks of 12 pads (each one loop or single hit) I can improvise an entire song layer over layer.
Ableton Live can makes this too but it requires a lot of additional resources or better another Laptop as sampler: SP 404 is cheaper and rock solid, it is "bombproof"
The only bother is to be careful to the correct BPM... I hate to "tap" every variation... but that's the game!
After the live, if the new improvisation is remarkable, I can transfer all of my new loops to my DAW for post production

4PC + Scope 5.0 + no more Xite + 2xScope Pro + 6xPulsarII + 2xLunaII + SDK + a lot of devices (Flexor III & Solaris 4.1 etc.) + Plugiator.

Hiya Ken,
first I am a bit scared, few years back when I read you move to NY I thought that you are in danger that something like this will happen, really that was my first thought.
I won´t start any discussion but I won´t feel safe living there.
Back to this topic, I guess you are looking for this aren´t you?

Just insert it as an insert fx, one shot record, up to 128 recording slots.
cheers

wow, this looks very promising. great find Chris! Anyway, about being mugged, well, it's really hit or miss. I know that's much more dangerous than any other city I've lived in, but well, that's the fact of life here. But true, it's very hard to rationalize my being here, or any one else being here in such a hostile environment. Not to mension the crazy taxes and rent.
