On 26 Nov 2007 the most complex scientific instrument ever built will be used in an extraordinary ambitious experiment. Located beneath the alps on the French/Swiss border the £3million Large Hadron Collider will be used to re-create the Big Bang. If successful it could open the door to a complete understanding of the universes deepest secrets and even yield the theory - of everything.
But if the worst happens it could create a black hole powerful enough to devour the whole planet.

Am I worried? In the hands of the French - damn right I am

I work at fermilab.
WE get people picketting us every so often because they think we are going to create a black hole that will swallow the earth.

It's total nonsense. The collisions we create are no bigger than the collisions going on all around you.
But they are controlled and monitored.

Dont worry. You araent going to be swallowed by a black hole.
