VALE LOBBY LLOYDE

Post by skwawks »

well you guys might not know him but one of our most influential rock git players passed away last night . He had been fighting/accepting and getting on with things lung cancer for the last year or so but last night the flu finally did him in . I reckon he was probably the planets first punk and definitely one of our most influential guitarists and a really great guy if you didn't mind someone laying an extended rave on you . He will be sadly missed ,we loved him .
Cheers

Hubird ,
He was my mate not wiki's :) actually ..gulp.. 'twas John Baslington Lyde .....but keep that under your hat . When he joined the band back then he was going through a stage of not wearing shoes but we were going to brisbane from melbourne on a sleeper train [he wouldn't fly in those days] and he was told they wouldn't let him on with no shoes so he went to a bootmaker bought 2 slabs of leather and stitched 'em round his feet . They sort of looked like small rectangular flippers :D but curiously matched the homemade case he kept his wonderful Fender Jaguar in ,the one with the bent nail banged in the volume knob so he could swell and fade with his little finger easily .
That was along time ago ...but I was lucky enough to be able to play alongside him a few months ago when he was induced into the Australian Rock n' Roll hall of fame and then again at his benefit concert he joined us for a couple of songs ,but the best part was hanging out with him again at the hotel ...he wasn't able to get it on as hard as he used to ,in fact he was positively sedate ,almost , but he could still lay a rave allright and I hope that when my time comes I would be able to face it with the dignity and courage he showed .
There was no" I'm gonna beat this" bullshit he just said " the prognosis isn't good Paul but my oncologist said his patients live longer " and then he went back to shovelling his breakfast down his throat . So D or double D hu ,things suck right now

No No Hu I give in ...I'm quite used to walking around with a foot in my mouth so it's cool.... I give in :D
Going down to Melbourne for the funeral this weekend .... I remember my old mum saying I'm not going to anymore funerals and now I understand ,and after Lobs ,excepting a couple of other people {if I outlive 'em that is } I think I'll adopt that policy too . This shit SUCKS .
He was a very interesting man indeed .
Best Regards
Paul

Pallbearers held Loyde's coffin aloft during a traditional Aboriginal smoking ceremony as mourners gathered in the forecourt.

Smoke from gum leaves, tobacco and marijuana swirled and drifted above the crowd as the hearse moved off to cheers, applause, salutes and one last fond farewell: "Ga on, ya old bastard."
Sounds like it was a good sendoff.
